Hey all,

In the market for some new reels, I have been doing a bit of a search on the forum and looking at the penn affinity, daiwa 35 scw or shimano 1400.

Not fishing massive lakes so only casting 100yrds max, around £150 a reel budget.

What are your recommendations guys?

I have been using the Okuma T Rex 7000 for most of my carping this year and they are superb, clutch is excellent, line lay perfect and really well made defo worth firing into the mix

The carbon version is worth a look,I think you can pick them up for not much more than the mk3 Ltd

My later ci4's haven't missed a beat ... granted they don't have the heft of old ultegra's . But still fine reel and far better than a lot available

The point was many years ago you could buy Shimano reels and know they were solid, whatever the range or price point. Thee days, that's far from the case.

Hmm, I have shimano's that are 25 years old and are still a good reel that I will hand down to the grandson, this is at 4 months old.
Awaiting shimano to tell me whats wrong.

Need add a washer under the spool so it evens out the line lay

I'm not so sure, that isn't a neat taper like washers cause, there's a noticeable lump in the middle
