Hi, I'm thinking of getting some tapered mainline for distance fishing. Do any of you guys have any experience of using it and is it worth getting?

Have used the fox exocet tapered mainline before. Definitly gained a few yards using it. Not a significant amount though. Never had any snap offs or failures with it so that was a positive. Haven't used any other brand so can't make a comparison.

Thanks, think I'll give it a go. Having no leader knot is definitely a plus.

Definitely by removing the leader knot is one less point of potential failure. Sorry I wasn't able to comment on any of the other brands but that Fox Exocet is the only one I have used. Good luck with it.

I have used exocet,on my syndicate there's a leader ban.
Given the choice I'd use a braided shock leader every time.
A lot of problems come from people not tying knots correctly over filling spools etc.

It's literal s-hit-tier line and nothing to do with overfilling. Chaffs to bits and is no where near the stated strength it's supposed.to be.

I'd never use it ever again and advise anyone else not to use it.

I was referring to problems using braid not exocet.
No I don't rate exocet either.

Have the Korda tapered subline on 3 spools for when I need it. It has been fine in use. I use it for safety reasons when using big leads, heavy bags etc where leader bans are in place. Unfortunately for Korda many lakes with leader bans also have 15lb minimum breaking strain rules which means you have to use Fox as they produce a spool where the mainline section is 15lb. Korda max is 12lb (fairly sure, could be wrong). Shame really as tapered lines could solve lot of safety/crack off and cut off problems.

Weird how Korda don't do a 15lb version.

There's Ridgemonkey's RM-Tec Orbit Double Tapered Mono. Don't know much about it and never used it. The dia to breaking strain looks a bit suspect.

Kordas 12lb has the same diameter as normal 15lb line. Always go off diameter not what's printed in the label . If you get a 15lb Korda line you'll be using .40mm diameter and you won't be casting very far with that

I find the whole diameter thing a bit of a myth. For casting, obviously you're looking for the smallest diameter and breaking strain. It's all a bit of a minefield. Take Korda Subline vs Syncro XT for instance. If you look at the Tackle Box tests they've done:

Korda Subline 12lb breaks @17.13lb stated dia 0.35mm measured dia 0.36mm

Syncro XT 12lb breaks @15.75lb stated dia 0.33mm measured dia 0.31mm

And just to make the point

Syncro XT 15lb breaks @ 21.75lb stated dia 0.37mm measured dia 0.35mm

Korda Subline 12lb breaks @17.13lb stated dia 0.35mm measured dia 0.36mm

They break at that with the knots used, not necessarily all knots.
Those tests are handy for a quick comparison but not to be taken as gospel.
Your examples actually prove the opposite of what you're saying
