is the ci4 xtc worth the extra money or is there little difference between them and the standard xtd
Funny this thread had been asked because I have the shimano xtb lc big baitrunners (new ones) I was going to buy the shimano c14 I didn't no if that would be much of a upgrade either, hard to tell because I don't have anywhere I can get to see them in my hand

Obviously one is lighter than the other, else not too much difference. Go to a tackle shop and physically compare them. My advice would be to look at Daiwa - the bail arms are quite fragile on both those reels and the line gets caught behind the spool a lot - mate of mine has the Ci4 versions, not a happy bunny... he's already had to fork out for a new bail arm on one of them

What was he doing to them? I've had the xtb big pit baitrunners for over 2 years now n never had a problem with them at all, my friend has had his cards for years now and they still look brand new and hasn't had to replace anything at all, a lot of people on here highly regard the ci4 that's why I was looking at them. Been looking at a few different diawa reels but when ever asked on here most get slated. Think if I went diawa I'd go straight for some basia reels to be safe

The newer shimano reels are not made the same as the older reels.Its all about cost saving for maximum profit,I have seen first hand the bale arm on a set of topend shimano reels bent.The look on his face when he took his rods out the bag was priceless,especially when he had been trying convince me to get some of these reels.I will stick with my daiwa reels from now on

i have both the standard XTC and ci4 XTC and the difference is huge for me. the ci4 are well worth the extra.
never had a bail arm problem with my Ci4s

Despite always being a Daiwa man I pre-ordered the C14's when they were first released, things of beauty aesthetically.....they went straight back, awful reels... 
Ci4 is usually a stiffer body, ie less flex and lighter
Probably shielded or sealed bearing upgrades over the lower spec too.
Bail arm will bend because they are solid wire, daiwa theoretically stronger (air bail) because it's a hollow tube

They look class, can't imagine they will being sold in many places for the rrp though, £750 is nuts

I tried both of them and bought xtc ci4+ and can say it worth. The difference is big.

Main difference is that you don't have to keep replacing the line guard on the Ci4 XTC like you do on the XTD. Known problem that almost every XTD owner will have experienced. Not expensive to replace but over time could creep up to the difference in price between the reels. I have the Ci4 XTC 14000 & cannot see me changing for anything else unless someone gives me a set of Mag Techs (which is no ever going to happen!). Line lay is fantastic, smooth as silk, great clutch (only use it when fishing with braided mainline but had no problems with snatchiness etc). I did replace the spool washers with ICE washers to increase the speed of the free spool slightly, but not essential tbh.

Bail arms are far from fragile on the Ci4 XTC reels I can assure you! I have dropped mine & swished then loading the car up & every single one is as good as new barring a bit of paint chipping on the actual bit where the screw goes to join at the rotor. I know several friends that have the same reels & most of them don't use a padded holdall or cover their reels in transit & they certainly don't look after their gear, and none of them have bent bail arms. I have experienced bail arm wires popping out of the fittings on Daiwa Tournaments. Does that make then flimsy or poorly made? Same as seeing Basia bail arms snap on the bends in them.
