Going to start fishing the trent for barbel this year would i be better off with 12lb or 15lb syncro xt? Cheers
15lb Synchro is massively strong and more suited to huge carp on very snaggy lakes
12lb will be more than fine for any size barbel, anywhere

Personally I use the syncro in 15lb. The Trent is full of snags, boulders and the like so there's no point messing about. Also casting leads and feeders up to 8oz + demands some serious line. Anyway the barbel don't care what line you use and still fight like nutters!

Cheers, i was swaying towards 15lb due to the snags and bug feeders. The 15lb syncro has a thinner diameter as well to most 15lb line as its .37 instead of the usual .40
It will be the first time ever of using 15lb line as in all the years when i carp fished i never went above 12lb.

15lb mate, i started on the trent a few years back, some areas are strewn with bolders and there are unseen snags everywhere, your line does take a battering, its a big angry river at times.

You are actually looking at two heavy duty carp lines mate
The 10lb is the one you want
It is a classic, proven, hard as nails line and you will have no problem with the 10lb
The actual breaking strain of it is more like 15 and it will be a delight to use for barbel
Yes ive heard its not for the faint hearted. Im used to fishing the yorkshire rivers with streamer weed and over hanging willows so think im in tor an eye opener. Just ordered a spool of 15lb syncro xt. Cheers everyone.
If you are unsure about 10lb, just go for 12
You will have no problems with it, the finesse will be much greater than the 15lb and it will be a perfect allrounder
Trust me the 15 is absolute towrope which is much more suited for HUGE carp than barbel

I'm not a fan of fluoro as I think its gimmicky and unreliable mate
You would be better off with a decent mono IMO
What rods are you using I can suggest a good mono to suit your particular rods mate

The rods are fox duo lite 11ft with 2.25 tips on was going to use my 2600 that's got 15lb x line on just to use it up for now new season then replace after

I had that in the past
The colour is just beautiful and ''well carpy''
It doesn't fare well in the tacklebox line tests, but that test is unfair as they deliberately use a noddy knot for all the lines ''as if a beginner was using it''
If they tried lots of knots with each line and then published the results, then that would not only be more fair, but also far more useful!
