Hi all,

I'm fishing at Rainbow lake in November on the island for a week, I was really hoping that there might be somebody on here that may be able to give me a bit of advice on how to fish it.

I was lucky enough to go on three trips there in the past but the last one was about 5 yrs ago, so I have forgot more than I learnt back then.

Hooks, leads, hook link, braided line, floats, hooks for the trees, the list goes on, there is so much new kit about now

And don't get me started on what bait to take

Rainbow is a beast of its own! I'd advise getting on YouTube and getting some research done on there.

Lucky Sod.
Do you know if your fishing the left or right of the swim? the reason I ask is the right is a lot easier than the left for all the Rainbow furniture, if your on the right really all you need is bottles floats I personally try not to use them at Rainbow unless it's absolutely necessary, if your on the left you will want the full shebang.

Avid bottle floats are available these days which a lot use now or you make your own with some pop top bottles and pole elastic for pennies, Hooks size 1, 2 or 4 if it's not a desperately snaggy swim, I have used Nash Twisters, Ashima Goliath, Carp R Us Centurions Or Fox size 1 wide gape X, a lot still use Solar 101's but I find them a bit springy in the wire personally but that doesn't discount the thousands of carp that get caught on them there, last trip I used PB's Jungle Hooks in a size 2 they do them in a size 1 as well (always trying new hooks out at Rainbow as it is the ultimate test for any hook).

Braid your choice but I prefer sinking in 40/50lb test, mono leader again your choice 45 to 60lb is good enough, I use PB products 45lb shield personally, leadless plenty out there for me PB again, this is no advertisement for PB they just make products that are better suited for Rainbow a European company with products suited for fishing bigger wilder environments.

The front/right side of the swim is easy to fish in comparison to the left, dont forget to take a toilet it's not like the rest of the swims where most anglers **** in the woods behind them, dirty *******s.

Thanks for the reply carpstar I'm on cloud 9 to be honest!

I've always wanted to go and fish at Rainbow again, and when me pal called me to see if I wanted to share the island with him I nearly took his hand off!

I'm actually going to be there fro 10 days, he has got the swim booked for 3 weeks, i am fishing for the second part, he said that I can fly to Bordeaux and he will come and pick me up, he is taking my gear for me as well, and then I will jump in with him on the way back. If Carlsberg did fishing trips!

I have had a look at the Jungle hooks in size 1 and 2, they look good, and I'm going to use some no lead lead core for a hook link, PB do a brilliant one that I looked at. It looks to me that as it was before, you don't have to be overly fussy with your rigs, and I am going to take mainline Active 8 for bait.

I've also ordered 1500m of 50lb braid, and I am looking at some back rests that lock down the rods.

My pal said that he has got floats, poles, hooks and stuff for trees if I need anything. he is an absolute diamond, I haven,t even got to take any cooking gear, just my tackle, bivvy, bed and bank sticks! Oh and a chair to sit on and a change of clothes. camera, hopefully I will need my camera.

my pal said that he will set his bivvy up in the middle of the swim and just space out his rods where ever, and I can put my rods where I fancy, so I'm guessing that I will put my Bivvy to the right and fish mostly to the right, I think that it looks less dodgy with the snaggy spots, but I will wait and have a look. I watched a clip of some guy putting a rod up the chocolate box channel to the left, which I remember fishing from 11, and the very end of it in 6.

The trouble was with my last trips i was in the right swim at the wrong time of year if that makes sense?

Right swim at the wrong time can be a bummer but hey your at Rainbow so anything can happen, nice way to do the trip as well only having to travel the long trip home which if you've caught goes a lot quicker, best of luck hop you catch a Donkey.
I'm not back until June next year and I haven't been now since May 18 it will be the longest gap for me getting back to Rainbow but it will make it that much sweeter.

Just on the bait front...I would definitely take/use a lot of particles. Im usually there Christmas/New Year time and always get good results using hemp, partiblend and just topping up with boilies

Good luck and just enjoy it

Hopefully this will be a regular thing for me now, my pal books swims every year, I know he has got bookings for 2020 and 2021 already.

And I am well aware of just how difficult it is to get to fish at Rainbow these days after making a few calls today, so I am gob smacked that my pal asked me. I'm just wondering what I am going to have to do to repay him lol.

By all accounts Pascal only lets people on that he knows and are good anglers. A lot of people get banned these days for breaking his more fish safe rules, and there are nets, slings and mats in all the swims, plus you have to double up with someone for more safety in the boats.

Makes good sense to me. fish safety is also top of my list. it sort of put me off when I used to go a few years ago, there were quite a few lads back then that did some crazy things to put a fish on the bank, poles hooks screwed into the trees, down channels, around corners, over snags and 300yds from the bank. Mind blowing what some people will do to catch!

Think you will find that very much still happens there! when you first hear about it sounds shocking but when you watch it done its fairly straight forward.....

I know mate, I've been there and seen it, but as i said, it sort of put me off a bit as it's not how I like to catch em.

I certainly wouldn't judge anyone else who fishes like that and I Know that if done properly it's quite safe for the fish. It just seems like a crazy way to do it. and I have to say that some lads do get carried away when they see fish showing in an area far down a channel and around a few corners. it's like anything in fishing, there are the idiots and the experts, but i have it on good authority that Pascal is banning a few people if he gets wind of any bad angling on there. apparently one bloke had all his booking canceled because he was over heard in the clubhouse taking about how many fish he had lost in the snags

I wont be doing to much of that, I much prefer to fish the open water spots which is why i jumped at the chance to fish the island as there are loads of them, my mate who I am going with is the knit one pearl one expert

Pascal is firm, but fair, and doesn't tolerate fools from what I have been told, by a few regulars.
TBH I cannot blame him, as he is simply protecting his lake and it's assets.
