Hi Guys,
I managed to pick up a set of ‘new' unused aero technium 12000 mgs xtb's. After using them on my rods (longbow x45s) i noticed some marking where the reel seat (fuji) sits. I compared this to other reels (ultegra's) and they too has some marks, but lesser.
Has anyone else seen similar issues? The plastic mouldings seem to be quite sharp on the clasps (same on the plastic/carbon fps type fuji, american tackle, century and free spirit) I was told that they soften/‘bed in' after time, but if at the expense of marks on your reels, this seems odd?
After seeing this I has thought about strategically placing some low tac tape on the seats, until the clasps ‘bed in'
Any thoughts/tips appreciated!!

All reel feet will mark when screwed into a reel seat. Just screw them on and forget about it. You dont need any tape either.

Thanks, seems odd to me, spend a ton of money on rods and reels and then the reel get's damaged at first use; counterintuitive at best!

What size reel seats are on those rods ? How tight are you screwing them up ?

I have mostly fuji 18dps and fuji 20 dnps on all my rods and to be honest most rods i build and i have,nt marked any reel seats / feet using ss3000,emblem s5500ts,okuma inceptions 6000/8000 and interceptors and shimano gt 7000 biomasters ? I have seen alps reel seats and fuji metal reel seats mark feet ?

Yeah it's very odd unless the paint is softer on aero techniums, although i have never noticed that they chip or mark easily from looking at others reels

Sounds like they may have been touched up/ refinished to make them appear ‘as new'

However if noone else has this problem (assuming have taken reels off rods) then maybe a faulty batch of fuji seats?

Ive always had marks from reel seats on every rod ive owned, from hi s, centurys, harrison and daiwas. May be im doing them up to tight. Just superficial scuffs.

In the days of me using shimano baitrunners they did have a line across the foot of the reel where they had been tightened but not had it on anything i use now . Do you take the reels off to pack away as then the seats could get crap in them ?

No, I keep all my gear really clean and don't generally take the reels off, just did to clean the reels completely, which is when I noticed the marks. My other reels (ultegras) had similar marks to what you mentioned, using the same rods, which makes me think the paint/laquer on the techniums isn't as hard
