I was looking at getting the premier air mate. You seem to know your cobbs. What the difference between these 2 models and the premier air. Pros and cons etc. im sure i read that the compact is more intense heatwise so cooks things a little too quickly

Ive had the standard premier and upgraded to the Premier Air
The Cobb Premier Air is the result of all the things learnt on the previous models and is the best model
quote
Improved base design allows better airflow, providing more heat and improved cooking
New dome lid with air flow control. Vent fully open provides higher temperatures or close the vent for lower temperatures with longer cooking times.
Removable heat chamber for easier cleaning.
fire grid is of a higher calibre, thicker, longer lasting stainless steel.
Improved dome handle provides better grip
Improved base top ring with a larger offset away from the heat of the inner sleeve to ensure a longer life
4 grommets instead of 3
I had the premier and sold it upgraded to the Air a great decision !!!
Fuel makes a huge difference the Cobbstones are expensive but very convenient Start cooking 5 minutes after lighting Cobblestone roasts a Chicken and trimmings in 2 hours OR an Ultra Quick cooked Breakfast
Australian Heat Beads take up to 30 minutes to be ready for cooking (less with a Chimney) and burn cooking hot for 2.5 - 3 hours
Weber Long Lasting Briquettes burn for about 3 hours but produce a light fluffy ash on a windy day a bloody nightmare !!
Personally I have tried every type of fuel available all are ok but if you want the very best then invest in a large box of RCB10 these are the daddy IMO
as they can be cut and will give different burn times RCB10 Tubes you can cut them 3cm burns about 3 hours, and 5cm about 5 hours take a bit longer to light stand the tubes upright
you can tip them in a tin and put the lid on and suffocate them to reuse later
NEVER EVER tip the basket of charcoal in cold water the stainless basket wires snap !!!!
TOP TIP
FIRE LIGHTERS TRUST ME !!!!! invest in a box of LEKTO NATURAL FIRE LIGHTER no smoke no smell each bundle will burn for 8 to 10 mins !!! of all the fire lighters these are the best and cost effective when you consider a box will light between 100 and 125 Cobb BBQs

The compact version is just a lower version of the pro version the black mesh is not as deep the bowl the Cobb stone goes in is shallower it's still the same size hot plate that the pro uses but with the compact version your want the extension ring and roasting rack to raise it up a bit so you ain't putting it directly on the hot plate as it's a lot closer to the heat source

Are people taking these for longer sessions, surely for 48hrs these are overkill and alot of hassle

Im planning on using mine on any overnight session. Hoping its a case of it being able to be hooked on the barrow handle, light it and leave it cooking with my dinner in it. Dont think its going to take up anymore room than a small bbq

Are they not a lot of hassle just to warm a meal up,if doing a full dinner or a pizza on the pizza stone I get it

Depends on if you think hassle is lighting a lighter for a few seconds to light the fuel (I'll say cobblestone) and then sitting and waiting?
What's the alternative for a proper meal (ie not noodles or a sandwich)?
To be fair, a ready meal reheated has got to be as simple as it gets, but it's going to be hard work cooking a lasagne on a stove or something. Plus the cobb then gives a ton of other options.
Yes yes, I agree, easier to pick something else to eat that doesn't need an oven...... But hey ho, we do mostly sit for hours with not a lot else to do
Ps I do my pizzas on the grill rack

You can cook decent food in a ridge monkey steak an chips, hunters chicken an crispy potatoes, little pizzas exc mind it is bit hard hassle on the ridge monkey it works an packs down to nothing. But I guess a cobb is the same as taking the little bbq
After all these threads ill have to try the cobb, our syndicate has one for use of the members, its only a 12 man syndicate, so very rarely is there more than 2 members on at at time, and in over 5 years ive only seen it used once or twice.
On a side note what do people use for making chips on the bank, frozen jobbies or do you make them with actual potatoes , par boiled then in the ridgemonkey with the tines bit of oil.
