Hi,
I am looking to buy a set of reels that I can ideally switch between 9ft and 12ft rods.
I already have set of Shimano 6000RE baitrunners for my 9ft rods but I am going to France soon and line capacity rules and distance mean I need a set of new reels and 12ft rods. Ideally I want to invest in a set which I can use for France but also then transfer into my regular fishing with 9ft rods.
Ive been looking at
Daiwa Crosscast 35SCW 5000
Fox FX9
Shimano 5500 XTD
My budget is about 150 per reel.
Which would you choose our or these 3 or is there a better option at this price range ?

Personally i would go for what i consider the better option , the Daiwa Emblem 45

Yeah it's funny you say that, I have just been looking at the emblem 35scw on go outdoors if you price match them you get a further 10% off which works out about 115 a reel.
Seems like a decent deal to me ?

The Emblem 45 with the gold spool and the folding handle is a nice bit of kit. I paid 160 each for mine but future fishing have them for 150 now.

Shilmano Xtd 5500 is a great reel, don't understand that some have problems with it, think most have no idea how to spool a reel and overfill it, i even took out the ice/teflon washer f and put the standard back in it: zero problems with it.

I have the Fox FX9 and Shimmy 5500 xtds either or would be fine I also have the Mitchell full runners about the same stamp of reel but with the advantage of a baitrunner, no doubt the 35's would suit.

I did originally favour the XTDs over any but was really put off by all the negative reviews.
Not a fan of that gold spool... Much prefer the all black but cheers. Appreciate the help.
Il take a look at the Penn's but I'm gearing towards the emblem 35s right now. They look like a lot of reel for the money !

Emblem 45 is also in black spool version.
The many negative comments on the 5500 XTD are mainly: The line goes behind the spool, But this is only because they spool up too much line aka no clue what they're doing

FX9 is a lovely reel. Long tapered spool for distance but a fraction of the weight of 'traditional' long cast reels. Retrieve is excellent thanks to the long reel handle and while it is not a baitrunner as such it has a clutch system that is smooth as silk. Had mine since they first came out and they have done me proud ever since.

Is there much difference in the 35s and 45s do you think?
Thanks Ken, appreciate the help. I have had hold of the FX9 and you are right they are a lovely reel, definitely one to consider I think.

do it i love them. better than the 45 version, proper bail arm and more ball bearings. only negative is occasionally line can go round spool. 112.49 each priced matched. bargain.

Get them from go outdoors. They will price match that price plus take an extra 10% off. Need to buy a discount card but that's only a fiver. And that can purchased once they agree the price match. Form below.

That's why I needed to find somewhere that had them in stock to price match them to. Filled out the form along with the link for the tackle box now so hopefully here back form them soon.
3 for less than £350.00 can't moan at that can you !
