Any recommendations for decent butt rests fishing locked up, which do the job but won't break the bank?

If you can get them the old esp ones are excellent. They changed them for some reason and the new ones don't look as good.

I just got some Jag lockdowns and rock lockers for this purpose. Very well made, though pricey for what they are.
I used to have some prologic one way rests that were solid and would probably have been 98% as good as the Jag at a Fraction of the price, would be worth a look.

Just want to second what Nairnp said, the Jag lockdowns are incredible bits of kit, your rods are totally locked and they're going nowhere, the only trick is remembering to press the release button when you get a take, but in fairness you get in to the habbit.
Not cheap but then if they're protecting expensive rods and reels it's worth it in my view

You can also fit the rod lockers so the button faces towards the back, which is my preferred way to do it on rods with abbreviated handles

Cygnet makes some real affordable ones. I use them from my boat when fishing locked up and they do the job.

Jag lockdowns are brilliant a lot of people won't pay the money but I'm so glad I bought mine, black lockdowns with green inserts look amazing

Seen these in the flesh the other day. Not to bad but wouldn't trust them. Any vertical lift on the butt end and the rods gone. The pin is a loose fit and isn't magnetised like I'd have thought. Be fine on flat level takes but wouldn't like to risk it on raised pegs or deep margins

Another vote here for Nash butt locks - I use them a lot for fishing locked up to features. Some of the other solutions with bands and such like just look sh it. The Jag solution I know works well as a pal of mine uses them, but to my eyes, they look a little bit gay with the coloured inserts, I'd keep them plain black. The Nash locks are compact and neat, they don't mark duplon handles either. I also like the fact that it's so easy to lift the rod from them. The only negative, if you fish with your tips up, it can create enough leverage to flip the rod out of the holder - had it happen to me a couple of times, but once you know that, all is good. Just a fiver each too.

They don't sound ideal for snags if they can come open under pressure. I'd want my rods to remain in place no matter how gay it looks. I'd look even more gay with a rod going across the lake

For fishing rivers and Rainbow I had my own backrest adaptions made about 13 years ago the nuts for fishing rod tips high as any pressure on the tip stops the butt flipping and then the ESP grip stopped the rod sliding forward, all stainless apart from the grip so never going to fail.

So the rod lockers do fit. They are slightly bigger than the p1 stainless so dont sit flush, but operationally they fit and work fine. Stainless looks the same grade aswell. Could probably get them machined down if the size is an issue but not something that needs doing

I ordered some a couple of hours ago defo have to get them into work and thin them down. Look good as they are though, thanks for sharing.
Was wondering about the red elastic just think it will soon be pink which would spoil my red delks and ISO's
Had a pal that had his stage stands rods and all pulled in by a double he had to go in after it all (as one would) got it all Back dried his new delks out, bike pump to clean the one button all working fine.
The red rubber insert needs a tweak.

I know you have mentioned it already about them being able to pop open with rods elevated and for that reason i found them to be not very good at all when fishing locked up to far margin snags on the river.
i changed to the bungee style rod locks similar to what pb products sell and these have been faultless

I have the P1s and the previous solar back rests for years they are great and I don't fish locked up however nor did my pal he uses the P1s not locked up in the open water his rod was dragged forward and it resulted in his entire setup stage stands 3 Rods going in the drink by a mid double.
I've ordered the Jag rod lockers. Jag has a great video of Jim's last year worth a watch.

That's a good question I don't use stage stands from what I understand the fish took line the rod then moved forward and the line was able to lock up around the reel. The force of the reel then hitting the buzz bar caused the stage stand to fall forward into the lake.

Surely the butt rest should stop the rod pulling forward? I thought these straps were to stop a rod being pulled upward out of the rest
