My trusty Emblem Spod reel is starting to slow down a bit so I was considering replacement.
Any reviews on the Aerlex Spod? I was just going to get a new Emblem Spod but these look pretty good for £60...

Changed to the aerlex when my emblem seized up a few years ago and been excellent with no issues.

Also using the Aerlex, no issues.
Great reel for decent price.
Retrieve is more than 1 metre, and also with 3 line clips.
Shimano quality.
No need to buy a more expensive reel!

I've got one and an emblem spod, I'll always take the emblem over the aerlex. There's nothing really wrong with it, just an annoying quirk, basically with every fixed spool reel, before a cast ill wind the reel until the line is at the desired length, poke my finger out on the rod hand until the line roller hits it, then open the bail arm. For some reason on the aerlex this leaves it in a dodgy position where it doesn't lock but feels like it has, so it'll snap shut when your winding up the cast
If I didn't have 10 other reels I use more often I might get used to it

You just need to make sure the bail arm is in the right place when it's flipped over as when I had one had it a few times it snapped back over on the cast the ulterga xtd spod reel is better don't suffer that problem

Can't be doing with dodgy bail arms!
Will have a look at the XTD but will probably stick with the Emblem

Stick with the emblem mate, I've got aerlex and it's ok but the emblem is far better

What he said, the Ultegra is a far superior reel. Have heard that the Daiwa's have ceased up on a number of occasions but they are on par with the Ultegra.

Had 2 of the XTD's break the gear that drives the rotor up & down !! Replaced them with Aerlex's & they've been superb no issues at all & half the price !!
Been using a Aerlex spod for years and it's been faultless.
I've 2 Aerlex reels, nothing wrong with them really doing the job but annoying the bail arm as to go that bit further round from top position before it will open
I've got 2 aerlex 8k spod reels. I upgraded them with extra bearings as it was so easy and cheap to do so and they've been thoroughly used for years with no issues at all.

I also did that to an emblem z rotor snapped clean off after closing on a big cast

Its generally happened quite early in the cast with my aerlex, so I've been able to abort and slap it on the water.
I did nearly poop myself once, winding up a 13ft xt spod to put a marker at range when it flipped, I was on a scaffold platform well above the water, the dent it left in the scaffold pole was pretty alarming!
If I used it more it probably wouldn't be an issue, but as it only comes out once or twice a year at most its hard to go against decades of muscle memory
