Have fox released a new version of this?
I can see the 40lb is 0.20mm is that right? I'm sure when I was looking into buying braid previously the sinking versions of that breaking strain were more like 0.35? diameter

I recently bought fox armadillo 45lb shockleader but its thicker than I would like. Terry Edmonds recommended me 55lb submerge braid as shockleader but it was only sold in 600m at the time. Now I can see it in 300m, so would 55lb submerge be thinner than 45lb armadillo shockleader? As it's the shock I'm worried about fir distance casting and as these leaders are thick I'm guessing i could even use the 30lb?

Looks like it has always been advertised as 0.20mm in 40lb but on the tacklebox line tests it was 0.32mm so that's where I got that from..

Has anyone compared the submerge armadillo shock leader to say 55lb submerge? Interested to know if the 55lb submerge is thinner.. my guess is if is..

It really is only 0.20mm. It's like cheese wire and IMO is dangerous in the wrong hands. I used the 25lb version for one trip. At 0.16mm it cast a dream but it was too buoyant and was very prone to wind knots even though I soaked the spools before each cast.I would say there are better braids out there, ones that actually sink!

Interesting.. I thought you were singing the praises of fox submerge recently? Like you say though in the thicker diameters.
What would you suggest on s good low diameter sinking braid?

I use a 300m spool of Submerge sinking braid for leaders when using 10lb mono.
Its 40lb and 0.20mm never had any issues even banging leads 140yds.
Any higher bs or thickness is over kill in my eyes.

Yes that's what I am thinking.. what I wanted to know is, is the dedicated fox armadillo shock leader material I bought in 45lb thicker than this stuff in 40lb? I'm guessing the answer is yes.. I think I need to get myself a spool of 40lb submerge... dont suppose you have 20 -50m left you wont need that you want to sell me? To try... just dont wanna have to spend another £35 on leader material, will if I have to though

The 40lb isn't advertised as leader material, as its a main line.
But it works out a hell of a lot cheaper than buying 20m spools of braid leader!

And thinner as it's not been designed to deal with snags.. I'm not worried about that just want strong and thin as poss 😉

My main objection to the 25lb Submerge is it's diameter. At 0.16mm it is the same diameter as 3lb b.s.mono but with zero stretch is is like cheese wire when under tension. It should never be used in any angling situation that brings the carp's body into contact with the braid, such as during the fight. If it catches in the dorsal is does a lot more damage that just splitting the fin, it cuts into the flesh too. I always use a 2m length of 30lb Gardner Mirage fluorocarbon line as a safety leader, even when using braids of 0.35 - 0.55mm. IN effect this guards against any possibility of the braid under tension cutting into the head or body, as well as limiting scale-lifts and cuts to the body.

Pros of 25lb Submerge Casts like a dream as long as you take the necessary precautions. Looks good when loaded.

Cons of 25lb Submerge: Does not sink readily so needs to be encouraged to break surface tension, wind knots, can cause serious damage if not used with safety in mind.

Thanks for the explanation Ken, I've got the 40lb.. I always use a leadcore leader as using in s helicopter rig so the braid never comes into contact with the fish even when I say I'm fishing it straight through that's not really true as I use a meter length of leadcore as well as any shockleader.
I've just received the braid and it looks really good I think I'm going to try it straight through (with leadcore) as I think it will cast better and be safer than attaching to my gardner distance braid which is 0.20. Will be interesting to compare side by side as they are 'supposed' to be the same diameter but the gardner is 20lb and fox 40lb... I rang the tackle box and they confirmed the fox readings are accurate that the 40lb braid is a lot thicker than stated something like 0.30

Just make sure that it is loaded correctly, err on underfilling and that it's soaking wet for casting. I like this braid but I've had a wind knot rip a tip ring off

Remember, pre-cast screw the clutch down so it cannot give any line whatsoever, and use a casting glove (golf glove) or finger stall. I have seen 25lb Submerge almost take off a guys finger tip on the cast because he ignored these two golden rules.

Oh yes! I've been using braid for a while now, been using the fox casting glove which I have found excellent. I think I am going to use this as a shockleader as it does appear to be thicker than the 20lb gardner stuff I have been using.. I'm really interested to see what distance I can hit with it

Anyone that's interested.. the 40lb submerge mainline is perfect for a leader.. half the thickness of the armadillo dedicated shockleader and has gained me 5 wraps just switched so well chuffed with that plus I have 300m so will last a life time
