I remember 15 years back there were a good stock of commons in there, there were some articles online and you tube but I havnt looked for a while

Think you might be missing the point about fishing a place that size mate.
There may be 40'S in there but ANY carp caught would be a result, if you are after that size of fish this venue is not for you. Just watch the Carl and Alex you tube video for the amount of effort you will need to put in to catch.

Been fishing it of and on rhe the past 7 yearish. Never done a 40. But the carp in there are lovely if your lucky enough to catch one of the mirrors or the commons that arnt the cricket bats

Ive watched both videos what carl and alex done on there, to be honest size doesnt bother me i was just curious if people had had them out to that size. Im more interested in the achievement of catching them out of such a large expanse of water.

Yeah i would be happy to catch any but i have heard the mirrors are quite uncommon in there.

Yes mate the mirrors are hard to come by ive only caught 4 its a lovely place my favorite carp ive ever caught are from there

I fished it for a couple of years 10-12yrs ago and photographed all the mirrors I caught just because they were rare. Seems funny now seeing that 37 mirror and the "big scaly" at the sizes they are now, when my album shows them at 11lb and 14lb lol. It's good fun with plenty of runs, but tricky getting through the cricket bats. My first year I managed 104 fish but think it's now a fair bit harder now they hardly pump any water out.
Still some nice fish to be caught though.

Blimey you done incredibly well to get 104 fish out of there in a year...ive never fished it but 5 years ago i worked there for 4 months in the tower, spill weir and tunnel...james the then bailiff lived on site and his rods were out 24/7 by the tower...i never saw or heard of a fish coming out the whole time i was there.
Theres some big pike in there. we had to overpump during the day as we were working in the tunnel and had to shut the compensation valve down...first thing in the morning we would go up the tunnel and find large pike and perch which had been pushed through the valve....sadly mangled
By the way did you know weir wood is one of the sources of the medway...this is what the compensation valve does it trickles a constant flow into the river system so if we shut the valve we had to overpump to continue the feed.

A couple of mates were on there last year. Fished about 40 nights between them and think they had one run. They said it was a stunning water. The crays are a nightmare though. They were using simple rigs, trying to make them as cray proof as possible fished over beds of bait to try and draw/hold fish. They set up bivvies in a couple of spots and left them there most of the time. Apparently you can cut your own swims out. Their spots could only be reached by boat. They did hear of fish coming out though. The reserve end seems to be the place to head for. They pulled off this year but another chap we know has gone on there and had a fish out almost straight away. The Carl and Alex videos certainly give some good pointers. Not easy based on their accounts.

Time isn't always a factor on these big waters I've just fished Ardingly reservoir for 3 years doing days only and I'd say my catch rate was as good as anyone doing 2 or 3 nights it's all about right place right time.I did join Weirwood about 5 years ago but got put off standing in the car park at the nature reserve end watching a procession of Carp leaping out the other side of the rope.

Andy by the sound of it your mates were fishing it wrong most of the fish get caught close in from margins upto 80 yards which is what i ust to fish. Had 90% of my fish on overnighters to without prebaiting i had my fish litterally casting out a hour befor dusk with half a kilo of boilies spread over 2 rods rarely went a night without atleast one carp

Watched the videos myself, obviously nature reserve end seems to hold a fair few.
Does the other 200odd acres throw up as many fish or does everyone jump in the boat and head flr that end?

My favourite area, where I caught most of my fish, was about half a mile away from the ropes across the nature reserve

Took a drive today, walked across dam and down towards boat ramp then drove to the bird hide at other end. Can see them staying put down that end with no need to even venture out into the other 240 acres. Me and a pal are up for this next year. Going back Friday to hopefully catch up with someone in the shop as it was,closed today.
Prob be able to hide gear in the bushes and,just bring rods home.
Definitely interested.

Lol. I did a little jig at 4 in the morning, Nothing big but a mid double common. scattering of baits and a snowman set up.

Hasnt gone any bigger since carl had it but there could be atleast one other of similar size if not bigger but hasnt been out for a good few years. Lovely place though really enjoyed fishing there over the years

I dont think they stocked c1's pretty sure they went in a stock pond.
The new stockies have been put in thus year from.course fish uk. Nice carp

From what I remember, the club members and day tickets can only fish about first half mile from lodge end, so no real bother. Always found the canoes more annoying, but never caused me any issues. Caught quite a few (21) one weekend and most of those were in daylight with canoeists all over my swim, splashing and shouting etc. The fish really aren't put off by them one bit.

yeah I think that is right, half a mile from the dam wall on either bank. I only ask as my club has just signed up to be part of it and was thinking of going but didn't know if it would be a bit clicky. also know there are a few clubs that fish it and I didn't want to get there and not be able to get a swim.

Doubt anyone will bother you mate and fish really can be caught from all over. Sure, at times they can be stacked up in shallower areas, like pre spawning, but on the whole, there are so many carp in there, they have to move around a lot because of the competition for food.

I would add it will be busy from now due to this video most probably and that the locals that have fished it for a long time are not impressed
