Horses for courses. Longer one may flip more reliably when approached from the bait end. But will be a bit more cumbersome when fish approaches from the lead end.
As with anything, try it and see which works for you.

The position of the hook bait on the hook & separation makes a big difference as does hook pattern/eye angle.

When would you use a long kicker over a small one and vice versa?
I've always used small ones like these Nash kickers

But I recently tied up some rigs using long ones like in the picture below and the hook seems to flip over much more reliably when testing it in my palm (this was using a standard wide gape type hook).
