Lol I can't say that I've tried it, I just know from dabbling in bait making that too much of certain powders can make a bait taste bitter.. feel like I need to go back to what I was doing

Do you know what, I was going to say squid meal isn't bitter, but I've just asked my mate who's in Krabi with his Thai grilfriend and she says dried squid is!

I know the dried squid beer nibbles (baby squid) I've had many times weren't bitter, they were kind of smokey sweet which I assumed was because they'd been dried oner a fire, that'll teach me

bitterness is your taste receptors, not the carps so don't let that worry you.

human taste has evolved to help us identify nutritional substances that are best for us. a carp will be completely different as it has evolved with different nutritional requirements.

Today's Clever Marketing is great at brain washing us to 'pimp things up' to increase liquid or powder sales for said company/s, when us anglers were doing just fine on the bog standard boilie bait freebies straight out of the freezer.

Once a good bait, always a good bait. I believe less is more in a lot of cases.
You are already cutting and crushing up the freebies to let the goodness/attractors out quicker.

You are probably doing nothing wrong, ONLY just needing patience, in a swim, on feeding fish to get a summer or winter result.
As anglers We just overthink & overdo things whilst waiting for the bobbins to move.

Yea I seem to agree with you. My catch rates have plummeted recently and I think this could be why. Going to go back to just boilie and pellet and maybe some liquid hydro I think, otherwise it's changing the taste of the bait as well which I don't want to do

I can’t comment on the squid meal as such but I’m not sure ‘extra attraction’ always means better results full stop. I’ve tried pimping up baits before with all sorts of things but my best results have always come from baits straight out the bag. Maybe it’s ’too strong’ a food signal or sensory overload I’m not sure I’m no bait expert. Nothing in the fishes natural diet would have them levels of soluble attraction surely.

Hi all, I wanted my free bait to let out some extra attraction (this was mainly through the winter months) so bought a sack of squid meal and 5lr of liquid liver hydro. I have been adding the powder to my pellet and boilies (whole chopped and crumbed) and mixing it all up. It suddenly dawned on me. Is the squid meal in its basic.form bitter to the taste? I'm wondering if I'm doing something I don't necessarily need to do.... I know you can't go wrong with liver hydro though. Both are from Bafs by the way.
My catches have been pretty both all through winter even til now so I am wondering if it could be this?
Thoughts on a postcard
Cheers, Matt.
