In reply to Post #16 I suspect the only issue people have with tap water is chlorine. You can knock a lot of chlorine out with high tap pressure or from a height into a pan/bucket Another way is to leave it overnight. You could also use a dechlorinator from a pet shop ( a lot cheaper than Brita type filters). If you don't do anything the boil should drive all the chlorine off anyway, I wouldn't be at all surprised it it even rids it fully from the soaked chick peas.
If you do make regularly and are bothered full cartridge filters or reverse osmosis units are the way to go, plumbed into a cold water tap, been there done that (making beer).
Edit, and if some Chlorine bothers you what about mismatched water mineral profiles, or the buffering effects of high mineral waters, too much info and too little proof the fish care

I'm not telling anyone what to do but I have no problem with tap water.
If people want to buy bottled water then that's up to them but you can't rely on that stuff being better than tap water,
I don't bother myself but a Brita filter seems a good idea.

And lake water doesn't? When did you last see a water purity test of tap water and lake water? I have seen tap water details, it's not great reading, BUT lake water is almost certainly worse unless you live in the outer Hebrides.
Rain water, fair play to you if you collect it but then your bait is being thrown in that muddy old lake water anyway so does it really make that much difference?

If you’re that concerned like others have said get some from an Asian shop and buy some bottled water and do it that way,I found some tins a while back that do black and white chick peas and apparently the lake I’m fishing next week respond well to chick peas

Thanks all for the posts.
When I prep my particles I've always used rain or lake water from the lake I'm on.
Tap water has too much stuff in it that I wouldn't put in bait.

Don't think these suppliers of tinned pulses and beans are channeling water direct from the foothills of the himalayas ether. I'm reckoning a mains water supply in a canning factory somewhere in Ealing.
