Agree does look that way which is pointless . . .

If each arm was adjustable/extendable not sure why they cannot make a mechanism or even 'manual' corresponding marker with a number that 'auto aligns' the central fixed centre stick position the further each of the RHS/LHS sticks are extended (ie 1-5 on centre stick hub / 1-5 extending arm positions). There's obvs a minimum limit to this (as a starting point) to ensure the pod folds as previous - this could also be narrower than current for a tight set up - the longer the extension on the arms required the shallower the angle of adjustment to ensure both alarms and back rests are always perfectly parallel . . .

I like the look of the bigger pod - i have the RP1 and absolutely love it but would like for the centre section between front and read to be longer... still wont make me part with another £400 to upgrade

Big JAG fan but this seems to be over engineered for no real gain. What more do you need that the original 316 or micro doesn't give you 🤷

Does the new RP2 look wider? Never seen an RP1 in the flesh but heard it can be difficult to sit all three reels alongside each other.

I thought the width of the legs was adjustable, if its only the centre bar the lengthens than it's not the much more adjustable....their words were adjustable in every way

Yeah I think the same perfect as it is bankstick wise.

Disappointing that the rp2 isn’t adaptable on each base arm as my rods always splay out no matter what I seem to do which I hate.

Prefer em nice and level

I dont think the uprights are too tall at all. Any shorter and your reels will hit the base. Remember you can shorted them by raising the base and plant the uprights in the ground. either way they just banksticks jag will sell whatever size you want.

Are the uprights on the rp1 to tall? Is it worth buying the base and then getting shorter uprights ?

I totally agree. Due to the width of the stainless looks flimsy and awkwardly spaced. I love my RP1 easy to use. Would of been ideal if the center bar could extend another few inches over the RP1 and the Bank stick arms could extend so you can space your rods as you see fit. Only solace is saves me spending more money on carp gear

the rp-2 is just around the corner, was shown at one of the shows, might be worth waiting to see if you like the new adjustability on the rp-2 ,failingbthat you may get a rp-1 cheaper as people look to sell to get the rp-2.
I had the prolite rp-1, preferred my nano pod

Its only anodised on the black so will scratch which was another reason why i went with the 316 as scratches play havoc with my ocd. Some of the black banksticks ive seen on ebay have no anodising left and are bare silver aluminium. Not an issue with the a pod mind as you dont push the sticks into the ground.

I have the prolite black. Personally I prefer the look and to save the weight, but can see that the stainless will age much more gracefully.

Have noticed for example that the locking levers damage the black finish (which surprised me).

Having had both 316 and prolite grey and now the RP1 in black, I agree with Stu the stainless is probably a better longterm option but I went for black purely for aesthetics

Personally prefer the extra weight of the stainless especially on a pod. You will never notice the difference in weight anyway with the amount of gear we take. Ive always been a stainless man, it will last forever.

I own the RP1 in Prolite Black and I’ve had the 3 plus 1 buzz bars and bank sticks in 316 stainless. Although I can’t comment on the RP1 in stainless i can say from owning the buzz bars that the stainless feels more premium, robust and weighty. Whereas the Pro lite is of course a lot lighter and doesn’t feel as solid but aesthetically I personally think it looks better.

Personal preference as both materials are still great quality and i love my RP1. If you want something that feels solid and your not fussed about weight then go for stainless. If you want to save that extra bit of weight and the Prolite is more pleasing to you then go for it.

Rather than start a new thread thought I would ask here, what's everyone' preference the Stainless version or Prolite Black version? I see there is a 1.1kg weight difference. Any pros and cons to choose one over the other?

Rear sticks are 8 inch and front are 6 inch but you can still get your tips in the water. I bought three 10 inch and three 15 inch sticks to go with mine and a couple pf stabilisers so covers just about everything. Love mine, best pod ive owned and ive think ive had them all now.

Ive used mine now for 2 sessions and like it a lot. It will defo take 13ft rods. I believe the rear bank sticks are 10" which can obviously raise almost double that which is ample for dropping your tips in the water. Also bear in mind they are just standard bank sticks so you could buy taller if needed for specific venues etc.

Overall I really do like the pod. Its so easy to setup/pack away and easy to level with the lever lock system. I would say though for me the best addition to the pod is the stabilizer which makes the pod that much more sturdy (looks nice too and well worth the £25 spent)

I've been thinking about getting one of these but I've got a couple of questions for any owners. Firstly do the extend long enough for 13 foot rods and secondly is there enough height adjustment so that you can fish with your rod tips under water if you need to. Thanks

Yes that would be the ideal solution.

As to post #81 and why. I guess a main reason would be so I could gain an inch either side so the rods were that bit less tight together. The second reason would be that if I’m fishing all rods to a single spot then ideally I’d have them pointing directly towards that spot with the rods parallel, not slightly splayed as currently on the RP1, or alternatively if fishing to different spots I might increase the splay.

Agree with this and its also what's putting me off - adjustability in the arms is limited by the 'fixed' central rod position (when using 3x rods) to ensure the alarm heads align. Cannot see why the front and rear support arms could not be adjustable exactly like the current buzz bars with grooved markers etc - this would not affect current pack down size

Surely if you wanted to spread the rods further apart which I can only assume would be for areas you are fishing you would just split 2&1 by taking middle bank sticks out?

The pod is just fine at the minute, just that personally I’d like to be able to have the option of another 6-12 inches of spacing between the front and rear rests. At the moment it doesn’t give any flexibility as you basically have to have it at maximum extension all the time.

Likewise having adjustable arms would allow you to play around with the rod spacing or splay a bit.

It’s not at all necessary, but it’s something I’d value all the same.

In all honestly I dont think the rod pod is too short. Here are some pics with my rods on them as I was busy sorting out the cords for the rod lockers. Those are 12 footers with basiairs on them and ample space. I was more concerned about the width between rods and even that is wide enough.

In short gives me exactly what my super compact mk2 did but a lot less hassle. Shame I had to cancel my weekends trip was looking forward to it

Wouldnt be as compact then, the bag would have to a lot wider as well and love how compact the bag is. I will never use the extension as the pod is fine as it is i just like buying jag stuff.

So they sell the pods for how much now?the pod isn't long enough. They then make an extension and charge another premium to make the pod perfect.Very very clever business that by JAG,they could of just made it long enough in the first place

If they could find a way to do this, and perhaps to also add an option to make the pod longer (maybe an optional additional centre section), then the RP1 would be truly perfection.

As it is it’s very very close anyway.

Quite interesting i got mine on the first shipment that went out to shops when they first launched. Local shop ordered 5 of them in total with 4 being black (one of mine included)

I went in the morning they were due to be delivered and they had been dropped off... with the lad who runs the carp section in the shop, i opened mine to have a look and found what looked like vice marks on two of the bank sticks... we proceeded to open them all and give it a once over and ended up having to take two good pods out of the 4 black ones. He rang them while i was with him and they sent out all new ones that had been checked on a next day delivery for him.

Also allowed me to use the current sticks for the weekend and then send it back to them next week. Very impressed with the communication.

Nice graffs! An engineering work of art - they are tiny in reality (smaller footprint than the nano and less length to adjust but solid in terms of set up (no single stem buzz bar twist etc)

Could chop both for an RP1 but do like the Super Compact for its goal post stability (die hard ex quattro user) and its versatility (you can fish proper tips up with 20" banksticks at the front) - it is a faff to align sometimes but worth it - no idea why jag discontinued the product as its better on uneven ground and the adjustability creates tight or spaced rods as well as splayed (unlike the RP1) . . . RP1 does make sense over the Nano for small rod / rapid set up - just wish they'd bring a mk2 out with adjustable legs (esp at the front)

BELCH - I had the super compact thought it was great (RP 1 isnt to dissimilar but is much easier to use as its always set up so no faffing around lining up the bars,) I loved my super compact in 2 rod form with no goal post but when I used it as a 3 rod I found it a bit of a faff to get it symetrical at times undoing all the levers to then insert (Hope that makes sense)

I chopped it in for the nano/micro pod which I didnt rate by comparison although I hadnt used on stage stands like you I felt it wasnt as stable particularly as a 3 rod set up and Ive now got the RP1 which is the best of both worlds and is a significant upgrade on both in my opinion

so easy to go from 2 to 3 rod and the fact its always ready to go makes it a joy to use

I also have two set ups 12'6 his and qdx and 10' creepers with ss2600 and both are equally suited to the RP 1 where as the nano really only suited the small set up

I already have Super Compact Adjustable (which now that its discontinued I think I'll keep indefinitely) and a Nano Pod / 2+1s! SC is most used with 12' rods and bigpits / Nano on small waters with 10's and SS2600s - both are really good on uneven ground and the Nano especially on staging with the supplied screws etc but saw a RP1 on my lake over the weekend that looked perfect for smaller rods / rapid assembly etc

completely different tbh, I got rid of my rp-1 only because I've been fishing waters where I need to wade out so using my 2 plus1s buzz bars and storm sticks is easier as it's just a case of unscrewing the buzz bars....the rp1 is a quick set up, flatish ground kind of pod with some adjustability but for me it would of meant unscrewing all the alarms every time to put on buzz bars or long banksticks every time I needed to wade out.

I have the super compact and will put the rp1 through its paces this weekend and let you know how they compare.

The one thing about JAG is their quality are second to none but boy oh boy you shouldnt look at the price ha ha. As ordering the pod today I figured I will spoil myself and bought some safeliners with inserts, isotopes and hockey sticks, some snag ears with extra ears and rod lockers. Why not go all out I thought. Well in the end a rod pod has cost me £950 lol lol lol. And thats without the butt rests as already had them

Expensive hobby this carp business

This thread reminded me how much I wanted one but couldn't find any in stock previously. Messaged JAG and as always customer service top notch, stock on their website of the stainless model which I wanted so order placed!

Should be a lot less faff than messing around with sticks which can be a struggle on some pegs I fish.

Yes the more i used my universal the more i didnt like it. Its a pain in the ass to set up compared to my rp1. Really well made pod mind, solar have really upped there game. The rp1 is so quick. Its literally out the bag and set up in seconds.

For ease of set-up I don’t think you can beat the RP1. Pop out the arms and extend the base and it’s ready. I use Basia SLD reels with my RP1, so you can definitely use with big pits. It is snug, but once you get used to that then it’s fine.

The full foibles would be that the bail arms and handles can touch, so you just need to align them, (most people do that anyway), and as the handle does sit just under the rod next to it you need to lift the centre and right hand rod slightly to the right as well as up to clear it smoothly, but that becomes second nature. Given the choice I’d prefer an extra inch of clearance between the rods, but then it wouldn’t pack down into a space that fits inside my holdall (which is something I really like). Truth is the snugness probably took two sessions to get used to then hasn’t caused me any issues since.

The ease of setup and flexibility it offers to be able to easily use as a 3pod, 2+1 or singles without having to screw and unscrew everything off bars is awesome and easily offsets the snug factor when fishing it as a 3 rod pod.

I just got a bespoke angling supplies bag for my rp1 Rob. Much better than the bag it comes in and has the extra pocket you require for indicators, receiver on the front.

Horses for courses - Ive been a jag fan boy for as long as I can remember and have had all there sticks 316, grey prolite, black prolite - micro pod, super compact and Ive had my prolite RP-1 since release and cant fault it - yes its expensive but jag gear holds its money and it hasnt cost me the world therefore when Ive uograded over the years

As has been mentioned customer service is excellent and Ive been to the factory to collect stuff in the past and when you see the scale of the business, the fishing side of the business is so small by comparison Im amazed they gave me the time of day to be honest

The RP1 does everything I want and is so easy to use - I use QDX and the 2 rod splay is great and the 3 rod has ample space for my reels - I leave mine set up at all times and its up and ready to go in less than 10 seconds

The only thing I would change is the carry bag to have a pocket for hangers, batteries, receiver etc and sleeves for spare sticks

Yeah it does look tight for big pits I just want something ease of setup tbh. I recently purchased a solar universal euro pod which is way too much messing about for my local waters and my current jag compact pod is still the old style with turn screws which gets jammed and annoys me. Unfortunately im not someone to pay over RRP for a 2nd hand product on ebay

Definitely not discontinued. They were supposed to be starting making them again a few months ago but have been busy with other things. They actually got one of the machinists to make me one as a one off as i said i needed it for my france trip in april. I dont know of any other company that would go out of there way to make one pod for a customer to help them out. I have spent a small fortune with them mind over the years so that probably helped.

Its fine on uneven ground, just drop the bank sticks through the holes in the arms until they hit the ground then adjust the inner part of the bank stick to the correct hight so everything is level. Good pods but prefer the solar universal pod.

How do people find the RP1 to use on irregular ground?

Often fish waters where the swims aren’t level and wondering how easy it is for get the rods level with this kind of design? My only concern really, otherwise it looks like exactly the system I’m after to upgrade my bankware.

Braders, get him to turn the alarms back to back when packed down. The bag will then zip up. I use Fox alarms with snag ears and it does fit. That said the new bags will be an inch higher to make it a little a easier.

Overall ive been really impressed with mine although i haven't really used it that much due to lack of fishing this year.

I don't use it in the bag you get, i have mine as separate sticks and the base in a buzzbar bag. Still only takes a minute to set up. I fish waters with a 2 rod and 3 rod limit, works great as both and easy to adjust. Also like the fact i can screw it into decking on some swims and use conventionally on grass or stone pegs.

Not sure they made they made the black version longer and you would think they would increase the size of the bag so it fitted.

Awesome bit of kit, I’m not normally a big fan of pods but this one has been well thought out.
Takes literally 5 seconds to set up from out the bag. Is extremely well made as you’d expect from Jag, absolutely love mine 👍

My 316 rp1 fitted i the case no problem with the jag snag ears attached. I think the issue was with the black version as the sticks are slightly longer on the black rp1.

Had mine a while now and its fantastic bit of kit, love the way it folds away and so easy to set up, fished in France with the Jag rod loks on and used a bivvy peg lock it down to the ground as was fishing at distance locked up to a feature and the takes were savage and it didn't move

So now it’s been out a while, just looking for a longer term review on the Rp1. I currently have the nano pod with 2 plus 1’s however am looking for something a bit more robust and with delkims find if i get a take on the outside rods it can make all 3 light up. So like the look of the Rp1 in stainless as think it will be a bit more stable.
