Whatever you do, dont use the Avid stems. Had several fall apart at the swivel with fish on (from 2 separate packs bought from 2 different shops)

Avid stems or Gemini (which I prefer) . . .I'm a tubing convert and use the micro braided rigmarole stuff which pushes nicely into the Gemini silicone connector. Based on this I just snip the mainline knot on the old stem and tie a new palomar for every bag change (to the top of the fused fluro loop section) before sleeving together with the connector creating a safe and seamless fit. Just make sure your palomar loop is big enough to pull the bag through and tease the knot down before tightening etc. Yes you lose half a foot of line every cast but its still quick - I generally make up 6x bags in advance (if using 3x rods) and replace these over a session as required.

If you don't want to use stems but still want to pre-make solid bags you can still do this just using a lead on its own in a bag and attached to a leadclip with the swivel exposed at the top of the bag - you'll need a long latched baiting needle but can basically 'lay' the hooklink alongside the bag and pull it back through the body of the bag until the hook is pulled back into the end of the bag . . .not as effective in terms of presentation but cheaper in that your only bagging leads and are re-using the same hooklink every cast effectively . . .

Gemini do tidy stems that can be used instead of lead core and achieve the same thing

Yeah I can see that would work, lead core is banned in my local lakes, think I’ll be loading bags as and when I need them. Thanks for you reply

I make up a short length of lead core with a loop on the end and a swivel on the other end to connect the hook link to. Then tie a big loop in the end of the main line and you can loop to loop made up bags on

Another solid bag question, and I apologise if it’s been asked before, I searched but couldn’t find anything.

Those of you who make up solid bag rigs in advance at home with in-line long stemmed leads, how to you attach each rig so that is easy to change to a new one and in the even of a snap off, the lead falls free so it won’t be dragged around by the fish.

Obviously a quick link above the lead won’t facilitate this!
