The bloke sounds like he is searching for the cure of cancer when he does an interview / podcast.
It's fishing you clown....a hobby, a pass time.....not a matter of life and death.

In reply to Post #58 Although the first episode was OK I don’t find the new fella a bit Dull, his style is not particularly natural IMO. His questioning comes across as if he’s just read some sort of Coaching / Interview Manual, very forced and as he f he’s practicing something he learned on a course last week.
Hope it gets better as I actually quite enjoyed a lot of the previous podcasts and in general Carp podcasts do seem to struggle a bit which is surprising baring in mind the size of the audience.

I think the new presenters trying too hard to push certain areas of questions, getting people to elaborate constantly and I get that he's there to get info out of people but at the moment he's trying to push questions that aren't there...maybe he will settle down but at the minute it's not my cup of tea.

In reply to Post #55 I agree. The latest one was of no Interest to me, though it may well have appealed to some of the younger listeners. I suspect they are bedding in the new presenter before he starts with some more interesting interviewees.

In reply to Post #54 The one with DF was decent but the latest one with Spooner/Dove is a bit of a borefest imo. Bit of a strategical error for me in that they have this great new presenter (and I do genuinely think he is great) and decide to open with the standard DF one followed by what is essentially an advert for Monster Carp. They should have opened with DF then some kind of big hitter/exclusive (a Tel or a Laney or some other genuinely intriguing character). They should have made the most of Rich Stewarts arrival with something a bit more special imo.

In reply to Post #53 I've always really liked him but could also see why some haven't. He's unapologetically himself and it's definitely easier to see in the recent podcast - I thought he came across excellently.

I listened to this today .... I found it quite interesting ... obvs very Danny/Korda focused ..... I found Danny quite engaging/interesting .... Interestingly I have always found Korda's marketing to be very "chavvy" yet dont think Danny came across this way (maturity perhaps?) .... Perhaps Ali's departure will gain Korda a slightly more mature reputation/demographic .... i think the brand is already showing signs of "growing up"

In reply to Post #47 Think Jim Gibbinson had very early use/development of putting particles out at range.
Dopplegangers I think they were called. could be wrong.
All Found a diagram in the 1984 The carp catcher book, by Alf Martin on page 100. So if it was in print in the spring of 1984, it was well in use before this.
Small bait dropper 2.1/4" wide by 4" long with several 1/4" holes drilled along the length, with a polystyrene cone stuck on the nose/lid.

In reply to Post #47 Didnt Martin Locke produce the first commercially available spod? I no they were being used on places like Dartford lakes in the early 80's. Thats where the word "Spod" was first coined,an abbreviation of another word that escapes me.

In reply to Post #46 I listened to it the other day. Danny mentioned developing the spod after seeing it being used on mercers (I think). I seem to remember people using home made Spods at Sutton at Hone in 1984. Does anyone know when Spods were first in use. Obviously at the time they would have been homemade.

I think he’s pretty good generally. It’s about drawing the guest into talking and not about the presenter, which I think he does. Obviously he doesn’t need to do that with Danny as he loves talking and is very comfortable in a studio environment. I used to listen to the carp cast a little bit and that was basically that Jamie plonker just talking about himself to whatever ‘guest’ happened to be on that week. It was unbearable.

In reply to Post #44 Bit of a baptism of fire I’d say! Rich’s style always tends to be to let the angler tell the story rather than pushing his own personality. I expect the interviews with guests will be better.

In reply to Post #24 The ex editor of Advanced Carp Fishing?
That would be the gentleman who published a leadcore article with an inline set-up where the lead and rig could not be ejected, and when I questioned its safety called me an 'armchair angler' and keyboard warrior, despite me sending him my experiment findings on the use of leadcore.
I then got a series of emails arguing over my points, which he did not want me to publish.
That's a no from me!

In reply to Post #20 I really love TA,and his sons outdoors ,bushcraft video's,I find them very entertaining and I pick up lots of tips,to me ,it's all about the spirit of angling what ever aspect you are participating in. Terry, gets mentioned a lot, there are many others out there ,quiet people who who go about their angling in the way it was intended..
I have zero interest in many aspects of modern carp angling ,although I still eat sleep and drink it..however, words like wraps ,etc etc..leave me cold, the slow motion water pouring over 'anuvver' scaley banger..all this so called tribe speak that has appeared or metamorphic progression of silly language, its not great in my very ,very humble opinion..
Each to their own...it brings to mind what someone said to me once ,carp fishing has saved course angling from passing away, now its a monster perpetuated by monetary greed,it not even about the angling anymore..
Anyway ,make your own path,or mindset..thats what I've done,be an individual

In reply to Post #18 I actually think TA Fishing is brilliant. always gives it a go and has totally the right attitude towards enjoying your fishing and getting stuck in.
I think the name was originally tongue in cheek though. hes an all rounder, by his own admission no expert, but does have some handy tips and realistically, I think his channels tackle specific video content is aimed at beginners. Things such as fixing the tip ring of a rod yourself, making leads, digging lug worms etc, and never extravagant. I think its a far more accessible watch than some carpers fishing on a dinner plate at 40 wraps with 600 quid rods and 500 quid reels, 700 quids worth of bankware, 600 quid bivvies etc that is aimed at the more experienced audience. the pullen guy is seventy and sleeps on a camp bed! not that he's poor mind has a huge house and decent bit of land in the hampiest of shires.
Also fond of "The Fish Locker" and "Carl & Alex", the latter two live about 20 mins from me so I recognise a lot of the venues.
I'd say Carl and Alex do an alright job of show casing the atmosphere where they fish, almost as good as Jack Reids stuff when he films Terry Hearn.

In reply to Post #18 As someone who remembers Pullen from the dark old days of just one monthly coarse magazine, I sort of got where he was coming from re.. how modern carping as become, it’s his podcast so he’s quite free to espouse his views as are we all.
Whether we like it or not, angling is about how it touches the soul, that first fish, just being by the waterside, always looking at a piece of water just in case we spot something etc unfortunately a lot of the podcasts and a hell of a lot of anglers too, don’t manage to grasp that ethos, it’s the reason Terry Hearn is loved by all and sundry… he takes you there along with him, most podcasts and their guests just reel off a list of waters and fish they’ve banked soullessly.
If you are in need of something to listen to, I thoroughly recommend the Guru podcasts, I’ve never been a match angler but the excitement and memories these guys portray going back donkeys years really is great listening.
As for the Korda podcast new host, I’m not sure who could fill Simon’s boots, sure he seemed a bit wet but he engaged with the guests and coaxed out those little bits of info other’s probably couldn’t.

In reply to Post #8 Believe it or not, I remember the first ever carp fishing podcast (i believe) to be released. It was a by a now defunct channel back in 2012. It featured Graeme Pullen (From the awfully named totally awesome fishing), who just spent two hours moaning about carp fishing. The second one was a chap who fished Euro Aqua, and the rights and wrongs regarding it's stocking and the falseness of it. Nether the less, the bloke had an impressive amount of visits there despite the cost involved and spoke in depth and with passion about the place.
The three hour format works, as it has done or the last ten years. I knew of Rogan when I was in secondary school, and used to watch his podcasts when they were streamed online via video. It was basically just three hours of abuse, dick jokes and Q&A's. I'd never thought it would evolve to where it is now, but it has. They are probably the only thing in life apart from fishing that i've held an interest in for the past decade!
Carp angling podcasts can have the same longevity, but it needs to evolve. In a years time, they are going to seriously struggle for content if they keep churning out the same names talking about campaigns which lacks any sort of depth. I've said it before on a different post, but I think the wind has changed in terms of what content people want. They don't want to know the in and outs of a ducks chad in regards to bait used to catch whichever pet is being discussed, they want to know about the twists, the turns, and the atmosphere. I guess that's why we still buy carpers books hands over fist.

|
In reply to Post #7 I think they haven't even Scratched the surface of people to interview for 3 hours. I like the format, and think it works.
Fox have tried that thing on YouTube where they fish a session, and then afterwards sit down and discuss the session, kind of like match of the day, and discuss where they could have done things differently etc. What a great idea, but my god is it mind knumbingly boring. "yeah so I boshed a yellow pop up out but I should have done a pink one ya know"
|
|
|
I actually think they’ve run the idea of a three hour podcast with one/two guests as far as they can take it. I think it actually needs a change of tack now. Personally rather than one angler talking about their own fishing, I think a more technical series would now be good. For instance one week a rig talk. Have an angler go through the whole range of rigs and their uses, plus making them etc. Another week focus solely on location at different times of the year etc. Maybe one week a really in depth three hours on bait etc etc. Perhaps just do one a month but get in an expert in that field and really go into depth. I guess it would be a bit like a masterclass but three hours long.
If you are reading this Korda and run with it. PM me for my address for the goody box. :-)
