Yep, absolutely fine, i use it for exactly this. Make sure you use a hook with an out-tirned eye with xline though

I’m sure they’d be fine both as a rig and with a heli lead.

I'm looking at tying up some D rigs and wandered if 17lb x line would be any good as I have some spare?

Also are fluro D rigs OK when used with a heli safe system or do they tangle?
