Much easier to fish zigs on waters that are shallow like yours. On deep lakes you have so many different depths to try. I fished a lake that was similar and no deeper than 6ft and I found 2.5ft to 3ft zigs were the best option. Zig aligners all black have always worked far better than trying different colours. And as has already been said black zigs at night are deadly. Takes some confidence to fish them but the fish find them somehow?

Approach it a bit like fly / lure fishing if you do not have weed

Work the swim if you are fishing them blind (ie no visible signs of fish) - cast them out staggered long, after 20 mins wind them back a few rod lengths (dont re cast), then 20 mins later wind them back again etc etc etc

After a hour move swims and work that one as above

You will be amazed how much water you cover, and a number of times have had them take it when its being moved.

Dont be afraid to fish them at night - if the water is clear and the sky is bright they can be a great tactic.

Also worth moving about and fishing different parts of the lake - the fish wont be moving much this time of year, so you're better off covering different areas throughout your session

I used to fish a similarly silty and shallow lake. The only joy I had on jigs was much closer to the surface. The water was fairly coloured which likely made a difference.

Hi all

I have Friday - Sunday booked on my syndicate.

It's hard at the best of time and with the weather at the moment I don't hold out much hope but wanting to try zigs.

The lake is between 3-5 ft deep with no weed but quite deep silt.

I was planning on fishing zigs at 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 foot deep.

Just looking for any tips from people who use them alot

Thanks, Chris
