I just googled exactly that expecting some proper dirty munters, it gave me various domains to archery sites.

At ranges over 100 I wind them up tight (with mono) and have caught loads doing that.

The further out you are, the tighter you can go. That rule fits all i.e. under the tip you need to go mega, mega slack... at 60 you can start tightening up..... past 120 you can go full balls-deep bowstring.

As said, different story with braid.

I actually think you can get away with murder using chods at range (with mono anyway). As long as you land on a nice tight line it'll sit right even on really weedy substrates. What's more, you can fish the line tight as it'll just take up the stretch rather than pull the chod down into all the crap.
Different story with braid but with mono you can really take the piss in my experience.

Depends on exactly what you’re fishing over to be honest, low lying weed or a bit of bottom debris no problem, thicker weed and you could be dragging the rig into it, especially if you need to fish a tight line.

If the weed is a bit thicker maybe a hinge stiff rig would be a better choice, with the length of the boom to help it settle on top rather than being dragged in.

What are peoples thoughts on fishing chods at range, 100 yards plus? I’ve got a situation where I could do with using them at that distance due the bottom being, well, covered in chod. I am concerned about line lay and tow in the water. Obvs at shorter range you can just let it sink slowly and settle on the top and present it self with being dragged about or fishing right lines.
