to leak faster, you can shave the sides/skin of the hookbait(s) to remove the seal that is locking the attractors in, you can then wrap it in a little paste. Another thing i tend to do is pass a baiting needle through a few times so attractors leak out easier - ideally only do this to your hookbait so it stands out over any other freebies

As said chops or/and crumb really is quick and effective.
I generally fish mine with particles.

If you crumb up freebies you are speeding up the process of releasing attractors. However I will say that if you watch fish over bait thrown in the margins or in a tank, they can instantly find them so they must be able to taste or sense whole baits very quickly.
As below I’m sure some baits are overly strong and perhaps this makes fish cautious on pressured venues but I always think that a good bait is a good bait and will work instantly or after 36 hours of immersion. Perhaps what’s on the rig is the deciding factor as to how fast you get the bite

as a side note i think a lot of commercial boilies are over flavoured to satisfy the consumer more than the fish, a theory of mine is sometimes baits take a while to work after being in the water as a result of them being too strong and unpalatable until they've washed out. I guess what im trying to say is sometimes high attract doesnt always mean instant results in fact the opposite.

Use paste instead of boilies or wrap your boilies in paste, if making your own add more soluble ingredients or replace some of the egg content with hydros or boil for less time

Hi All,

How long do boilies generally take to start leak off do you think? Over the years I've tried various things to try and get them to 'work' quicker in the water as I fish short sessions but never really noticed any difference in results and certainly have not experience many quick bites at all.

Are there any methods you have used which you think have made a difference for a quick bite (other then soaking them in a glug or washing them out etc?)

I hope this question makes sense!

Regards, Barry
