Nobody from the UK will be driving in or through France for a while judging by France's latest statement.

In reply to Post #11 On a side note, those of you who have panel vans, transits etc, what do you book it as on the ferry. I've got a Mercedes Vito but its glazed all round and has 5 seats so i get away with booking it as a large car, much cheaper.

In reply to Post #7 Ok
Cleared that up. Daily Express and Guardian both being sensational about a minor issue. Typical press
Mind you how will ferry operaters or the Chunnel administer this? How will they differentiate between a van full of fishing tackle and say antiques for sale? As I read it they can refuse to take a "commercial vehicle" if you don't have the licence.
I wager all vans will have a price increase for a crossing on top of what is already expensive v a car !

Is it either or both those conditions?

In reply to Post #1 You will not need a goods vehicle operator licence if any of these apply:
you only use your vehicles in the UK
you are transporting goods on a non-commercial basis (not for ‘hire or reward’)

I have just read several articles that suggest from May 2022 it will be both difficult and expensive for a van that has a Maximum vehicle Mass (MAM apparently) of more than 2.5 Tonnes to travel to France next year (from May 2022).
To give you an idea all UK pick up trucks (such as a W Amaork or Ford Ranger) exceed this figure, as do all medium sized vans like a Transporter or Transit or Vauxhall.
It will apparently cost in excess of £1000 plus a course to allow you to take it across.
Anybody know anything about this?
