In reply to Post #1 live is best, frozen do a lesser job, plus as maggs are 90% water, freezing will deplete, and they dont really have alot of nutrition live.
dont worry about ammonia in a frozen state, this requires O2

In reply to Post #1 I always freeze what’s left over of the live ones, and use the frozen to bulk out the next batch of live.

I believe maggots only excrete the ammonia when they are alive/eating. It’s possible this is one of the sources of the attraction.

In reply to Post #1 Nowhere near as effective in my experience buddy. They dont give off those tiny electrical signals which imo is what makes wrigglers so effective. But they will of course catch loads of carp regardless 👍

In reply to Post #1 I know a lot of match guys will use dead maggots at times. To be honest, a little bed of food is just that I guess and there are also those who go for fake maggot which probably don't wriggle too much...
I'm always happier with them more awake and active. I can remember my dad putting them in his mouth in the winter to get them going a bit. Although that might also just have been to gross my little sister out too

How effective in comparison to live wrigglers? Any loss in amino signal due to being frozen?
