The thinking anglers top “naked beads” are really good.

Their lead core ones are rubbish though!

I tie a bit of pva tape just behind the bead which seems to stop this to an extent but it can be a pain if it takes more than one cast

I've found that the no trace beads can often slip if I wrap the bait in paste on impact with the lake.

Any ideas for stopping the bead slipping or use another bead? I'm using 12lb tapered line (0.50) at the rig.

I used to use a naked chod set up and after testing with tungsten tubing in the margins I immediately switched. I like the way the tubing pulls to the ground with a bit of slack line.

What’s the reasoning for wanting to use a mainline straight through?

Ah, just re-read my post, doesn’t say what I’m talking about. I was referring to hooklength not mainline. I’ve found a stiffer hooklength stopped the hook section wrapping around the mainline. Synchro will be fine in 15lb

I use naked helicopters where rules demand and have had no problems. I use Korda naked set up beads and either 15lb/20lb mainline or more usually a tapered mainline. Tangle free, easy and quick to set up. Go for it.
I certainly wouldn't be looking for a stiffer mainline as mentioned in one post. Absolutely no need.

I use the avid lead free leader material for my helicopter rigs. Not had much joy to be honest, would I be better off using the helicopter set up with my main line straight through? I use 15lb esp synchro xt. Not sure what to do tbh

Have used them for chods and occasionally using “normal” rigs with. Found soft coated braid liked to sometimes tangle around the line. I’d suggest using a stiffer braid/mono hooklength if you’re not using a leader.

No mate. You’ll be fine. Hitting the clip as with all rigs helps aswell, but the set up in its very nature is pretty tangle proof

Anyone used or recommend a naked helicopter rig? Will the absence of a leader or tubing cause tangles on the cast?
