This is like your builders thread but with more numbers, it's like water torture.

Hey up mate how’s ya keeping. I’ve allowed for the turnbuckle etc as fortunately I’d had a sail shade before that I had fixed to something resembling square that I had built, unlike those cowboy builders who put in this dividing fence out of line. Good to hear from you mate and thanks for the heads up.

Edit - I typed in the diagonal measurements in the box the best that I had thought it needed to be done and then paid for the item. Their people then emailed me back advising me that the diagonal measurements were out and gave a diagram of what they should be. I was out by 2.5 to 3 inches and so I cancelled the one I’d paid for and had the new measurement one. Cannot fault their service one little bit.

Tazi- it’s josh_shepz. How is the sail shade fixed? If it’s on the tensioners which I’d be very surprised if it’s not, make sure you or the company allow for the fact they stand off each corner around 150mm meaning you may need to reduce your overall measurement. It would seem such a simple thing to think the company would take care of but I had it recently with some blinds where the company didn’t allow for the fixing brackets within a recess

The first one I measured was a rectangle because I needed to square the area up due to that previous cowboy builder not putting the dividing fence in a straight line. However I have now measured it with the fence as it is and those measurements I gave I think I’ve now sorted out the required diagonal measurement which give or take a little are as below.

450cm
430cm.

I don't quite follow what your asking there tazi, if it's a rectangle with unequal ends, you need to physically measure the corners as that gives all you need to plot the shape out. Failing that you'd need at least one angle to start from

How about this one please lads.....

Top = 98 inches.

Both sides = 142 inches.

Front = 113 inches.

What would the diagonal measurements be please from top left to bottom right corner and top right to bottom left corner?.

Thank you.

Cheers duggs, cheers noj as now I understand the importance of the diagonal measurement.

If this sail shade is just the job then I’ll order another as a spare.

Plus half the sparky, plumber and decorator’s jobs as well 🙄

Tazi if you want a perfect rectangle just enter the size I said. If it’s 2.5x3.6 going in a corner that’s out of square and has to remain parallel to the wall that’s quite a feat to translate into a drop down menu box with 1 diagonal measurement and get right!
If it’s out in one direction you can be sure it’s out elsewhere, so you need to measure it at the height of your fixings ideally and if it’s really out how do you enter which side you’re using as a flat reference, like staying parallel to the house and joining a perimeter wall that’s out of whack?
You know what you need....

The diagonal measurement will be to allow for the rectangle being out of square, what you've ordered will have 4 right angle corners, so if it's going on brick walls that aren't square you will find it isn't quite parallel on all sides

Not for a while now, they aren't very popular

I mostly do kitchens, plus wardrobes and general fitted furniture, but I still take on most chippy tasks when I feel like it. I frame the odd roof for a couple of building firms too
I have to keep my eye in and screwing boxes together gets boring

Strangely enough I’ve just had to Knock a wall down in my daughters yard as those dodgy builders never put in a damp proof course which lead to it crumbling away.

Typical as I could have used that wall....

Cheers lads.

The confusing thing is that I wasn’t asking for a triangle, just simply a rectangle.

Edit - If you could take a look on the covers&All website, type in sail shades and it’ll show an image of straight sides sail shade....that’s all I wanted a 4 straight side sail shade 3.6m x 2.5m but wouldn’t allow me to move on further until I’ve filled in the diagonal measurement box.
