In reply to Post #66 Just get in touch with okuma anoutd they will send some springs out.I didn't even take the old one off just double up and it's job done hope this helps anybody with the slipping anti reverse 👍
In reply to Post #63 Easy enough to get to the one way bearing. On mine the spindle washers and clicker cog were tight, took a bit of working off the shaft.
Ideally you want a deep 12mm socket for the spindle nut, and it's a left hand thread.
Also its hard to hear the clutch " clicker " when a fish takes line especially when its windy/raining and your deaf in one ear !
In reply to Post #62 I will give it ago shame never heard a bad review of them apart from this maybe it’s the grease
In reply to Post #62 I’m going to have a stab at taking the reel apart at some point and check what you mean about the grease build up. Hopefully, this may help the issue as they are a really good reel. Dodgy anti-reverse aside.
In reply to Post #61 You can tie your line to something (with rod and reel) and put some tension on the line as you simulate playing a fish, then you should be able to replicate the slipping anti reverse pawl.
Many have mentioned a stiffer spring...
Im not sure that the internal mechanism on the okumas works the same way, but i serviced some of my old daiwa emblems and any grease on the anti reverse gear made it sticky and it wouldnt slide back (every time) to where it needs to be.
In reply to Post #60 I don’t suppose I can test at home I take it needs to have some resistance how frustrating when it does not happen all the time it would be better if it did it all the time then you would know when it’s fixed I checked okuma offer a 5 year warranty
I only noticed an issue with one of my reels so far. Everything was fine, until I got to the latter stages of playing in a fish and whilst reeling in and gaining line, the back wind suddenly engaged. It doesn’t actually happen all of time. Just quite frustrating when it does.
I’ve tried to source some springs from eBay but couldn’t find any. Next step was an email to Okuma, not heard anything back as yet.
Future fishing have ordered me in some via Okuma, the part I’ve ordered from the reels part list is 801. There seems to be a few week wait on them though. I’m hopeful Okuma have made the springs into a thicker gauge. But, I can’t help think the same issue will occur down the line if the springs are a like for like replacement.

In reply to Post #58 I don't think you can test them. The anti reverse either engages immediately, as it should, or at times allows some movement backwards, as if the anti reverse is not engaged.
I dissmantled mine, made sure all was clean and put a drop of very thin gun oil on the assembly. They appear to be working fine, but for how long I don't know.
Putting oil on might not be a good idea in the long run but thought I'd give it a try.
I'd be very interested in finding some suitable, stronger springs for mine. I know someone sourced some off ebay, but I wouldn't know what to go for.
In reply to Post #57 I am still confused what the problem is can anyone explain how to test the reels
In reply to Post #54 Hi, I’ve just started to have this exact same slipping issue with the anti reverse on the okuma inc 6000. On the off chance does anyone have any links and or suggestions for the type of heavier gauge wire springs to buy for the replacements.
Thanks for any help.
In reply to Post #54 Thanks 👍
The intermittent issue (and its a big one to be fair) on the anti-reverse is that the spring they chose to pull the catch back in is simply not good/strong enough, if you are able to replace it with a stronger spring then it is actually an easy and permanent fix. Requires a bit of taking apart to get to it but I managed. I got some springs from ebay that were much better for a couple of quid. Good reels otherwise but this seems a step too far for me to make something fucntion as it should.

In reply to Post #53 You can swap the handle over to suit your needs in a few seconds.
In reply to Post #52 I’ve just sold a set of these - the guy that has bought them is saying that the handle is not switchable he’s l/h - is this true?
In reply to Post #51 I've sold these on, I just wasn't confident in 2 of them failing whilst out on the bank
In reply to Post #34 Mine have developed the exact same problem, they've never been opened. I've had from new for a good 4-5 years.
In reply to Post #47 Thanks got it will have a look
In reply to Post #48 yes true , i wasnt suggesting that the poster isnt havent issues with his
In reply to Post #46 I’ve got 4, no issues so far. Anything can have issues though, I had the line guard totally lock up on an Emblem with a double figure Barbel on the end in a weirpool - that was fun when I couldn’t wind in!
In reply to Post #45 when your winding forward and stop, occasionally instead of the anti revers engaging it will turn backwards like the anti reverse has been flicked over underneath but it hasn't its still engaged
i have 6 of these reels and have had no problems .... tbh ... this is the first time ive heard of any problems
In reply to Post #38 Sorry I am confused I have 2 of these what test do I need to do to see if mine are good or not
In reply to Post #34 I’m sure I’ve read on here that this is a “common” problem and a guy had a solution with a spring. I’ll have a look when I get home to see if I can find the thread.

In reply to Post #41 I have had four for a couple of years and all good .
In reply to Post #41 If there was any flaws Andy - trust me they would be gone
In reply to Post #40 with these its not every time, but enought times for me not to have much confidence in them..glad yours are all good mate
In reply to Post #38 Just checked the six I have- anti-reverse is instant.
In reply to Post #38 exactly what's happening...doesn't fill me full of confidence to buy new so think I'll give them a miss
I bought some a couple of years ago and one of them does exactly the same. Did it pretty much from new but I didn’t get around to doing anything about it
If the handle is still with anti reverse on it won’t backwind but if it’s moving forward you can then backwind straight from that with anti reverse on if that makes sense
Not an age or dirt thing on mine perhaps a design fault or common issue?
In reply to Post #36 Probably just need a proper clean out, might be just the outer workings clogged up with crap - take the spool off lay on a paper or cloth and give a good dowsing of Duck Oil Spray.
Leave for a bit to soak in, work the One way drive Switch, Bale Alarm, handle, and see if that makes a difference, normally does.
In reply to Post #35 doesn't appear to have mate although I do think theyre more used than I originally thought. I was suprised as I know they have a bit of a following on here, cosmetically I wasn't fussed so didn't really go over them too much...to be fair the lad offered my money back....im bow very reluctant to go and buy new ones after seeing these used.
In reply to Post #34 I have two sets; in fact most people I know have them on their River or Carp set ups. Mine have been faultless
Sounds like the one-way drive is not engaging, is their signs of someone has been inside them Andy? As it’s a common fault on all Reels if someone has packed them with LM type Grease and not semi-fluid.
what's everyone long term use thoughts on these...I picked up a set 2nd hand at the weekend, of the 3 two of them had problems with the anti reverse not kicking in every time. I.e when turning the handle and stopping with anti reverse engaged it would on occasions spin backward....one feels lumpy.
In reply to Post #32 I'd prefer plastic or metal handles on them personally but don't know where to start removing them from these reels. I'm hoping to fish next week so sending them off would mean 1 less rod too
In reply to Post #31 To be honest if it were me i would fix it myself but for peace of mind send it back.
In reply to Post #30 Just looked it up and didn't realise okumas stuff now has a 5 year warranty, had mine over a year I believe so I'll be in contact with bobco.
In reply to Post #28 I would say you have just been unlucky , send it back to where you got it from if its newish.
In reply to Post #28 Contact who you bought them from first and see what they say. I've got the T Rex reels and so far they have been brilliant.
Asked about the Inception as I need a reel for a 9ft ESP Stalker rod
In reply to Post #27 I've just reeled in and one of the wooden handles has broken, not sure how it's happened as it almost looks like it's delaminated and split in two. Anybody else had this issue? In two minds wether to epoxy it back together or contact bobco or okuma direct.
Have now used mine a few more times and they’re very good reels. Perfect for a light set up.
In reply to Post #25 Did you get the reels and what's your opinion on them?
Bobcotackle on eBay are selling these for £140 for a set of three, postage included. Just ordered myself a set.
In reply to Post #20 Thank you
In reply to Post #22 I have both Okuma Inc and Shimano 5500 .... i think the Okuma is a far nicer reel
Bought a set of 3 to go on my 10ft rods while my old 5500 have a holiday..similar in size body wise, spools a tad narrower and longer. Loaded with. 35 mono I found negligible difference in casting distance using a 3 oz lead. Clutch is a fraction quicker.. And smoother. For the price of these against Shimanos of a similar size its a no brainer imo 👍👍 Okumas are vastly underrated IMO, for the simple reason theyre not trendy or blingy.
In reply to Post #19 Many thanks.
In reply to Post #17 It's nice but not too slow like on the techniums
In reply to Post #18 Try parkfield angling for spare spools
In reply to Post #13 Has anybody tried to source spare spools for these reels please?
I just checked one out in the local tackle shop and was impressed. More so once a pal who works there said he had had some for 3 years and really liked them.
What’s the oscillation like on these? I fancy a set myself but have had issues before using fluro with Techniums etc.
In reply to Post #15 Yeah, the ls-6k is the one. The 8k one is massive.
In reply to Post #14 Look on Parkfield angling website the bait runner version is called okuma LS-8k or LS-6k they do 2 different sizes
In reply to Post #7 hi what's the bait runner version called? Cannot find it anywhere
In reply to Post #11 I’ve got mine on light 12 footers (2.5lb e-class) and they go perfectly. Bought them as a stop gap until I had enough brass for ci4 5500s… don’t think I’m going to bother getting them, the Inceptions are that good 👍🏻
In reply to Post #1 got these on a set of 10ft xtractor 3.5lb TC rods, great is all i can say, highly recommended.
Do these balance nicely on 12 footers? I have a okuma custom black big pit as a spare and it’s a lovely reel. One thing I would say, it’s advertised as quick drag but it’s anything but imho
In reply to Post #1 Got these myself. Superb value for money. You won’t be disappointed
In reply to Post #7 Thanks mate
In reply to Post #5 They do the Inc 6000's in baitrunner format. Would have thought they are good quality, and only about £60 each.
Thanks for the replies. I only fish the rivers 3 months a year so I’ll give them a shot.
Do Ukuma do a med baitrunner, that competes with shimano/diawa on quality? Tia.
In reply to Post #3 I now have 6 of these 3 for my 12ft set up 3 for my 10ft set up
Fantastic reels just a shame they don’t come with spare spools
In reply to Post #2 I'm interested in a set of these myself. Could anyone give me a comparison to other reels as to size? They would be replacing a set of Shimano 4500 GT's, so I'm looking for for something similar sized or a little larger, but not as big as say a Crosscast 5000C. I've rung round the local shops but none in stock.
In reply to Post #1 Unless you fancy forking out for Ultegra 5500 ci4s, I’d say go for the Inceptions.
Used mine a couple of times now on 2.5lb E-class - they balance out nicely and are superb for the money. Decent line clips, smooth clutch and the drag is nice and quick to tighten up. Highly recommend them mate 👍🏻
Before I bite the bullet, anything else I should be looking at for my 12ft 2.5 river rods?
I’m sure the answer is no…
