I’ve had a few over the years as you do

Once fished a rock hard water with one of my mates, lot of years ago now, he was using 3 grains of corn on the hair at range, sat talking as you do, rod ripped off

Next thing, coot going mental out in the lake, managed to get it in and I decided to net it for him

Got the coot in the next, turned around and placed the net on the ground, a coot is not a carp! it ran off straight into a massive bramble bush, we ended up dragging it out with the line, one angry coot with feathers all over going mental, PMSL at the time, scratched all my mate up when he unhooked it

Watercraft on coots

Seen it a few times over the years, strange one, think its like an aggression or warning thing, seen it at breeding times mainly, stood on branches in the water where they nest as if they are warning others away by slapping their feet

Very aggressive birds, said it before, imagine one the size of a swan

had a walk around a lake and noticed a coot on a mount slapping its feet in the shallow water, never seen this before.
is this a mating thing or could it be a show of aggression to something near its nest?
