I paid for mine too.

I choose to pay for all my tackle and bait these days, as I've previously mentioned. I am in the very fortunate position to be able to get whatever I want for trade. So I can choose from most baits on the market at a much cheaper price, with no need to be tied or beholden with anyone. I prefer it that way now. I'd rather pay.

I don't get Poacher for trade, as it's not sold in any shops. I have known Gavin since he was a very young kid, thirty years ago. He did give me a little discount, which I did not ask for.

I choose to pay more for this particular bait, because I want top notch. If cost was a big factor, I would rather use half the amount of a high quality bait, than something half the price, which is actually a quarter of the quality.

Like most things in life, it's actually a totally false sense of value.

No probs mate.

northamptonshire gravel pit mate

bit of a closed shop place, probably the best place ive ever fished, miss it dearly.

Motorbikes, renovations, family and business meant i had no time to fish, even worst now ive set another business up. hey ho, all in the planning for early retirement though

Fair play to you mate

Have you had much success air drying the SV1? Still prefer to short term air dry than use shelf life (although I'm aware that's not an option)

I was just curious. I googled SV fishing and was directed to 1000's of sites about a computer game called Stardew Valley. At that point my curiosity got the better of me and just had to ask

no mate, i pay the same as everyone else.

I didn't used too, i used to get it free, but since Gary passed away, i felt uncomfortable getting things for free from a small business who is trying to do their best, so i waived my freebie, continue to use the range but insist on paying for it.

I'd hate to see a great little business struggle when i can well afford to pay for it.

Not everyone is a fortunate as others, but in the same term, everyone has always looked for a discount/deal without understanding the business costs and demands

It was actually your thread that made me have another look at the range. I’m sure it’s a decent bait, just a bit pokey! Might revisit it when the weather warms up.

I agree with Mark and Joss on this. I've used the SV1 and SV2 and done very well on them. Great baits albeit more expensive than the rest of the range. Currently having a great autumn / winter on the SV1. I was speaking to Gavin in the summer and he was really hurting with rising costs and he just had to raise the price of some of the baits. I'd rather pay more for his bait than see him go under. I have loads of confidence in Poachers stuff.

Moved 4 years ago mate..........I hear Dick has had a compulsory sale imposed on him for the development of the houses being built and looking at some recent plans a road is being built through the Ski Lake behind SV and then right through SV itself....... Bloody shame as i wanted to get on there at some point........

I remember all the photos on here well..........

didnt know you'd moved from MK mate

yes, one of the reasons i sadly left there with the risk of losing it.

SV bait was developed and tested on there, hence the SV name. the amount of fish the 3 of us had who were lucky enough to test it on was ridiculous, including all of the "A" team

Exactly how you said mate

SV1 and SV2 are more expensive than the other baits produced purely based on ingredient added and the cost of said ingredients.

Ive used both versions.

Yeah, I started using the Fruit Frenzy and Tiger Nut & Maple one in 2020 following a recommendation by Joss. At the time, they were both £40 for 5Kg, now they've gone up to £43 so still not bad value. But even BETTER value when they have a sale on, they usually do it on a sliding scale, the more you buy, the bigger the discount. Because I spent over £200, I got a 30% discount.

That would be the SV1, it's more expensive than all the other baits they make by far mate.

In the BFM thread currently running, people are speaking about the original BFM being nigh on 50% fishmeal... And basically that baits like that, are simply not made anymore because it's too expensive....

The SV1 has 45% fishmeal in it. That is a very high level. Massive. Fish meals have come on bundles since the days of BFM. But they are FAR more expensive as a consequence. (CPSP 90) PDGFM for example is £125 a sack.

I've used the SV1 and I'd say it's worth the extra.

No doubt it’s good bait made with top ingredients, but their prices have gone top level since I last looked. Still near enough £10 a kilo when you buy 20K.

You can make most baits softer by glazing them with water a few times over the coarse of a day, letting it soak in a bit like a sponge

Joss is the man who'll know, I think its well known fact that when he farts it smells of this bait

I've admired this bait company from a far for long time now. And as I like to support local buisness I thought I give them a go A lot of it goes in my local club water. So with 25% off I couldn't really leave it on the shelf could I. So I took the plunge and ordered. Bait arrived today well packaged with excellent communications. Impressed so far. Took Josh's advice and ordered myself some Acid pear pops. That overly pungent smell of Amyl Acetate has just got to catch hasn't it. And in my eyes theres just something a bit more special about bait that arrives in unbranded packaging. Going to give it a go tomorrow, so time will tell.

I finally received my order on the Monday, 5 days and 4 nights after it was sent by next day delivery. I've been on to DHL the last few days, then yesterday they sent me an email saying......

Hi Trevor, my apologies this has happened. Your senders would need to replace/refund the item then they will make a claim directly through DHL Parcel. Thanks Ann

So I sent an email to Gav at Poacher baits, he instantly replied and apologised, even though it wasn't his mistake, and offered me a choice of a full refund or a replacement order, now that's customer service at its best.

Update 12.46, I just tracked my parcel and it said.... "There was no one in so we will redeliver on Monday". I was/am fudging fuming!!!! So I sent them a scathing, but diplomatic, email in return, the bloody cheek of it gets me, I do not like company's that blatantly lie rather than own their mistake, just like many politicians when they're caught out🤣😂🤣 I will definitely be making a claim now.
I'm banking on Poachers using an overnight service.

Hi mate, yeah it's DHL that's at fault, especially if Poachers paid for next day guaranteed delivery? I've written an email to Poachers yesterday explaining what's happened saying that I do not hold them responsible, although I wish they had waited till Monday to post rather than a Thursday as all courier companies state on their websites that delays are very possible, I cannot find anywhere that says DHL deliver on weekends, which surprises me, although they probably sub out to other couriers, don't they?

My paste will definitely be spoilt, the boilies will of been freshly made but like I said before, IF delivered Monday, 5 days & 4 nights is a long time. Do you think I will have a case to get compensated from DHL? I've sent them an email yesterday but no reply yet.

Thanks to all who replied.

Am a bit worried about my last order, On Thurs 6th I got an email from Poachers baits saying my order was shipped, then on Fri 7th at 08.34 I got a message from DHL saying my order will be delivered today 12.21-13.21 so I took the morning off and waited, no delivery, then at 13.45 another message from DHL saying "that your delivery driver is delayed but we do expect him to be with you later today", so took rest of the day off, I gave up waiting by 6pm.
Does anyone know if DHL deliver Saturdays? Because if they don't and I have to wait till Monday, my boilies and paste will of been in/out of vans and warehouses for 5 days and 4 nites, plus I'd of had to wait in 2 days, taking 2 days of work, expensive bloody boilies!!.

I'm so impressed with the quality of Poacher baits T&M boilies, that I'm thinking of putting in another order, taking advantage of the 25% discount and another reason is that I didn't see the "special order boilies" last time, so this time I'd like to try Purple Haze and as the Pear pop ups smell fantastic, the Pear Drop boilies, anyone tried either or both of these, if so what's the views, how'd you get on? Many thanks, Trev.

Had an email yesterday from Poachers saying my order was on its way and will be with me tomorow(today) it even had tracking facilities, great service, then had a text this morning about 9am from courier DHL stating my parcel will be with me between 11.49- 12.49!! Hopefully any minute, infact it's just arrived 13.13pm, so not bad at all, now to open the box

I spoke to gav last summer and bought the very last 300ml of the RR flavour for my pop ups and corkballs
I am due at somepoint in the coming weeks to drop a little into eiter geoff kemps rock lobster of trents sas squid mixes to see what they turn out like.. RR was one of the best flavours and just keeps you "sniffing" the baits amazing flavour
Amazing on a squid corkball👍🏻

Don't have to buy 10kg of bottom baits to order the pop ups just add the bottom baits to the bag then the pop ups and then remove the bottom baits.
I have just ordered another 3 tubs, bonus to know they can be rolled in a different colour

The current offer is in celebration of their 25th anniversary. Thay've been huge for years around the Dartenth Valley and beyond. All of their baits are winners. I personally like PSB (Poachers Special Blend), Tiger Nut & Maple, and SV2 which is a boosted version of SV1. As someone said below the Pear Drop pop ups are devastating. They'll sort you with dips, hard hookers, pop ups etc. Check the website www.poacherbaits.co.uk

Joss is the Poacher Man (username Frenzy), he'll give you some good views. Have a look at a thread I started last October called Poachers Fruit Frenzy, there's quite a lot of good feedback on there.

I’ve just had a quick mooch. Sad to see they no longer do Rum and Raspberry, I did well on that in 2009 on manor floods.
