In reply to Post #7 Also worth checking with your insurance company what cover you have. I just renewed mine and it seems some only offer 3rd party while out of the UK for example France

In reply to Post #5 As others have said, no need for IDP and yep, Brits will no longer recieve speeding tickets from cameras. You'll need to apply for an insurance green card well in advance of travelling as they can take a long time to come through, definitely need one of those now.

Brexit should mean you won't get EU speeding tickets arrive after your visit, are they no longer share databases.
... But you might get run over by an uninsured Pole when coming out of your house.
Swings 'n roundabouts, innit.

Driving in Europe
You do not need an IDP to drive in the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein if you have a photocard driving licence issued in the UK.
You might need an IDP to drive in some EU countries and Norway if you have either:
a paper driving licence
a licence issued in Gibraltar, Guernsey, Jersey or the Isle of Man.
Is this brex**** going to cost me anymore

Yes, i did that as well only to be told that its now a requirement regardless of licence type at the post office. For £5.50 its a no brainer anyway for 3 years. Having said that it could all change again I suppose

Just a heads up, you need an international driving permit (1968 version) for driving in the EU. This is regardless of where you licence is photocard or on papyrus like mine. Strangly, you will need a seperate one for Spain......
