In reply to Post #17 It’s rock hard, I’d be surprised if you had more than half a dozen fish in a season.

In reply to Post #1 Did you find anything more about the lake and its stock, Im really thinking about getting the ticket this year in June when it opens again, However not sure if i could stomach sitting behind motion less rods every session lol. Not sure thats great for the mental side.

In reply to Post #1 . . .am local and know people that have fished it . . .however as all others have said it is rock hard - not only because the stock levels are low / relatively unknown / kept hush hush to all but a few diehards but that a lot of what is quite a large expanse is out of bounds (apols if this has now changed - my knowledge is 20yrs old!) From memory a lot of the captures back in the day were from the OOB areas and under cover of darkness / SAS style missions . . .
Shame cos other than that its a great, mature looking venue and not far from me. . .if I win the lottery I'll buy it and fill it with Simmos!

In reply to Post #11 There is a certain beauty in leaning to blank and not give a sh*t
In all seriousness - as mentioned you will learn a lot from this sort of fishing. The first ever 'hard' water I fished really helped me to develop as an angler. I did 25+ nights before my first bite
Its the best feeling in the world landing that first hard earned bite. Knees knocking while playing it in the dawn light. You just don't get that feeling when fishing more prolific waters.

In reply to Post #11 Give it a go mate. Fishing such a place is how you develop the skills.

If only I had the skills the catch!

In reply to Post #8 Totally agree. Horses for courses and all that but these are exactly the sort of lakes which I am interested in....quiet, low stock, mysterious.....sounds perfect.

In reply to Post #7 Why is it a shame. Sounds perfect to me. Let's hope nobody gets their greedy mits on it and stuffs it with fish.

Real shame as would be lovely to fish there

In reply to Post #5 There was an article in a recent BCSG mag on Coombe. And what others have written here seems correct, very low stock and rock hard.

In reply to Post #1 Drive past it everyday to work and most ive seen is in 10 cars in the car park.
...very large water. best pegs are right over the far side, good 50 + min walk or so...
Ive also read the blog that was mentioned, im tempted at giving it a go myself, but you'd need to invest some serious time and effort clearing spots, pre baiting and small stock so finding them wont be easy, think its quite shallow tho
