As you’re aware my Mrs has had lots of TIA strokes.
Because of all the medications/steroids that she was on her weight ballooned. She later had a gastric bypass operation ‘not through compulsive eating but through the medications that she was on/still on’ To get a referral for an operation though on the NHS you have to play the system by telling them you’re a compulsive eater.
After the operation this left her with only certain foods that she could digest which in all honesty were unhealthy foods such as cheese, chocolate, sweets etc etc. There were lots n lots of different foods that would make her vomit so it became trial n error if you like. The vomiting in turn caused a prolapsed womb. She went to go see a consultant over this at the hospital but unfortunately once again was ‘another long story’ let down badly as this person was reluctant to put her under the knife to operate on the prolapse because the vomiting thereafter would only cause it to drop again. She stated that she would discuss with her colleagues the best way forward and would be back in contact and yet here we are some 7 years or so later and still not a word from her.
Prior to seeing this consultant regards the vomiting she went to see the stroke consultant at the hospital who wasn’t convinced that these were strokes she was having as she at that time was so young but would look into this further and be in touch, but never ever did.
For the first stroke she had ‘TIA’ she was given the blood clot busting treatment within the timeframe. For the next 5 TIA’s that she had we would call 999 and she would be taken into hospital only to then be told that because she was on all the available medications going that there is nothing further that they could do. Thereafter, along with being totally/ignorantly let down by two consultants she doesn’t even go to the hospital any longer because quite frankly in her words they’ve let her down badly. She’s had a further 20 plus TIA’s but none recent as further below may explain the reason why.
Looking back after the gastric bypass operation she wasn’t given any guidance whatsoever regards dietary/nutrition but just simply left to soldier on which in turn lead to her weight ballooning.
Any stressful situations along with heat could well bring on a TIA to which 8/9 times out of 10 it would.
Her weight ballooned that much due to the cheese, chocolates, sweets etc etc that some 3 months ago she tried the Cambridge 1-1 diet which provides the right type of foods to suit her. My first thoughts were great, give it a try but with all the medications and steroids that you’re on then don’t expect to lose weight quickly or if at all.
Some 3 months later and in that time she has lost 35lbs, no vomiting, we’ve had warm weather, her brother has passed away ‘funeral tomorrow’ which she’s seeing having a detrimental impact on both her mother and father and most importantly NO TIA’s.
That to me just isn’t coincidence as just goes to show the importance of foods for your body. The Cambridge 1-1 diet gets adjusted to suit her body/weight loss as she goes along.
Good luck Bradders, good luck all who may be in this situation of suffering a stroke/s and hopefully it’s given a little food for thought as to how strokes can/could be managed.

In reply to Post #114 Don’t go selling your gear buddy I’m sure your mates/ family won’t mind helping it’s what we are here for, my dad has bad copd he really struggles with it sometimes when we go I take all his stuff to the pegs for him and set his bivvy up for him, bait up for him sometimes and even put the fish back for him. I make it as easy as I can for him so all he needs to do is set his pod, rods and smaller bits up then cast out. There is always someone who is willing to help you mate.
If you lived closer I’d even help out I don’t like seeing someone missing out on something they enjoy, I hope you recover well and be back out soon enough
