In reply to Post #14 Sell on eBay when they have a £1 or 2% final sale fee, which is at least once per month, and that’s 8-10% extra in your pocket straight away.

Had my er's changed from 40mm Kigans full set to 50mm Minima's full set x 3 was £95 a rod
What a difference that made, the 50mm minima doesn't look out of place like a 50mm kigan even though there the same size

I was in the market for some new rods to upgrade my ESP mk1 Hearns, I bought a second hand ESP Hearn classics with 50mm rings and hated them, I just couldn’t get on with the 50mm rings.

In reply to Post #17 The 50s just soften the blank and make it appear they aren’t too stiff. Put 30s down to 8s along the tip and they’d be horrific

In reply to Post #16 Thank you for your replies
I cannot understand the need for the 50mm
I have had two sets of rods made and was recommended on both to use 40mm
They balance the rod better
Recently put the ER in 40 and hi s in 50 up for sale
Loads of interest in the 50 but the ER is the better blank
I have cast both and I could not tell the difference - I think you would need to be big casting
Will put them on flea bay and see what happens

Keep them as 40mm , I build rods and deter most people from those horrible hooped ear rings

In reply to Post #14 Cool, sorry didn't realise you had sold the 50mm rods already.
I still think it is going to cost you a lot more than £200 to buy 3 x good quality 50mm butt rings and pay for someone to remove and redo the bottom 3 rings. Therefore much more cost effective to sell as is. Good luck and I hope you get the price you need - just need the serendipity of the right buyer at the right time.

In reply to Post #13 I have already sold the 50mm rods
Looking on Facebook the last 2 sets of ER 50mm went for 900
After eBay costs this just under 800.
I was looking at a price to allow for changing the last three rings
I’m in no hurry to sell but they are now to stiff for me after my back operation
I have bought some more hi s in 12,6
Cheers

In reply to Post #12 If you have both and the 40mm are not attracting the price you want why not keep them and sell the 50mm? (You will probably say they are different test curves and you need the TC of the 50mm rods which is fair enough).
Either that or just sell the 40mm for the going price, it would be more cost effective than paying for three rings to be whipped on each rod plus the cost of buying 50mm butt rings.
As to why people like 50mm ringing patterns, and are prepared to pay more for them; I put it down to a type of mental anxiety and/or thought conditioning brought on by excessive social media use.

In reply to Post #11 On the 50 mm ringing it’s 50 - 40 - 30 - 20 - 20 end eye
On the 40 mm ringing it’s 40 - 30 - 25 - 20 - 20 end eye
So if you fit the 50 and then move the 40 and 30 you have a 25 left over
I have hi s 50mm rods and 40mm rods When next to each other this is the only difference

In reply to Post #3 I was thinking just swapping the 40 for a 50 but yeh, i suppose on such a high end rod you would have to re-do them all so they were graduated correctly.
Just not worth the hassle.

In reply to Post #7 I agree, when I had my rods built, I thought I wanted 50’s, but he actually advised against them and went for 40mm K series.
