You probably need to look at your network provider. I am with Plusnet mobile and get unlimited minutes unlimited texts and 25gb of data for £12 a month. I was getting the same deal but 10gb for a tenner and then ran out of data over the summer while watching footy on the bank so upgraded to the 25gb for an extra 2 quid. Cannot fault it.

Blimey, now there's a blast from the past Really good idea that. Think I've even got one knocking about somewhere

Its one of those things that's been playing on my mind for a while now. Just thinking how about the best way to do it. Could use iPad with the phone casting over a travel router and have the iPad pick up the cast via WiFi, I know what I'm like and more more than likely break the iPad accidentally, so that's the reason for the screen thing. Been trying to find a smaller/cheaper screen that will direct connect to the phone by USB C, though I've not found one yet.

All cool stuff

Do you remember them small handheld Casio LCD TV's ?
Well I was going to do a low tech version of what you say and make it into a remote screen connected to a camera to do self takes.
It never happened

You're bang right. Like I said, just get more data added to your contact. Takes the aggravation out of the whole equation.

Bit of a deviation from the main thread:

On a techy tip, I've been considering getting a 13.3" Prechen screen that I can connect straight from my phone direct via USB C to USB C, use my phone to take pics of captures from my tripod (always use a tripod) and use the 13.3" screen to frame and compose pictures or videos with the Prechen screen facing towards me. Should get much better footage, also, can watch a decent sized screen instead of my phone's as good as it is. Even thinking I could ditch the direct connection from phone to screen by using a TP Link USB powered travel router. Lol, do Nash do like carp sofas yet?

That would work but personally I wouldn't want to commit to a 24 month contract.

I still say a contract free sim in an old phone
Old phone if you haven't got one

Here you go guys to save some confusion.

Dogle... https://www.4g.co.uk/mobile-broadband/vodafone/k5161/

Mobile router... http://www.three.co.uk/discover/devices/huawei/4g-plus-mifi?memory=0&colour=Black

What you should look for is something that can be powered by a powerbank/battery bank, but obviously, to cut out all of the madness and clutter with dongles and MiFi etc. Just get more data added to your phone's allowance as it probably all works out similar money in the end, just less things to go wrong.

I have recently moved on to an unlimited Virgin plan. Bloody excellent. Watch the footie, cricket whatever.

It comes as part of the Virgin BB and TV deal.

I'm assuming his iPhone 11 is on contract so is probably costing a fair bit so to keep costs down I was thinking of using an old smartphone (assuming he has one)
Also those sim deals such as Smarty where you are not under contract so you're not obliged to pay every month could also bring down the cost?

In that case he would be better of using a dual SIM phone. They are readily available these days.

The same as what you mean by SIM.

I have been living abroad (Poland) for 15 years, so my terminology for these things may be slightly different.

'dongle', so is that any different to a mobile router device?

What do you mean by sim card?

As for your FishSpy using up data, that sounds well wonky. You shouldn't be using up any of your data allowance from your providers plan at all...zero. Now there is obviously data that is shared between your phone and FishSpy and may well show up in some kind of application on your phone as data shared between devices, but unless you are connecting to the FishSpy in some funky kinda of way over the internet via a server, which would be really silly, you shouldn't use up any of the data on your plan.

Because you are not being clear - not trying to talk down to you or at you - you're causing confusion. I think you know what you're trying to say, just using the wrong descriptions. Forget WiFi for the moment, you need *data* and a source for that data instead of your phone comes via a dongle which has a sim fitted in it. The dongle in the sim card connects to a provider which gives you an internet connection and you connect to the dongle via your phone's WiFi.
