Hands down the worst session ever, but, as post 5 said - can only be up from here surely?

sunny day a long time ago in my early 20's, went fishing and took this little blonde i was going out with, just got all set up bivvy up the lot, really nice day, just casting my last third rod right over to the far margin near some pads and some overhanging branchs, she was sat down on a step just chilling behind me reading a book,i cast my third rod right over to the far side and snagged the branchs on the far side with a 3 oz pear, it went round the branch and was just hanging there, pi553d right of im yanking it trying to shift it, and on the last yank, on the full test curve of the rod, when the line was about to break it fookin shot out , and i mean it shot out, it cleared the whole lake with no dip right at me at my belly, infact it was still gaining velocity,it really was like a missle, i just panic and jolted myself just to the side intime, it was going to hit me,and just missed me,then i heard almighty screaming what have you done to me what have you done, i turned round and it was just above her eye, 3 oz lead full force, she was sooooo lucky it just missed her eye, but it made a real mess, within 2 mins i had everything just chucked back in my fiesta rs 1800, rods out the sunroof everything and booted it to the hospital, xrays all that lot,bad bad day, i take no chance with snagged leads now

In reply to Post #1 I think it was about 1977 or 1978, I was a member of DDAPS and decided to start fishing the club water at Sutton at Hone rather than spend all my time at Horton Kirby and Brooklands (Dartford). As the fish at Sutton were bigger then Horton Kirby I decided to upgrade my tackle and spent a lot of money at Bob Morris´s tackle shop including some Tricast 2 1/4 rods. My first night at Sutton I set up the gear but as the weather was pretty poor and foggy, I decided to go to the pub for a few bevvies, well quite a few actually. There were a few club members on the lake and I asked a couple of them to keep an eye on my gear, I returned from the pub at approx 11.30 p.m. and couldn´t find any of my tackle, it had all been taken. Never did find out who the thieves were and wasn´t able to make an insurance claim, worst non fishing trip I can remember!

Went to do a night on the local river
and just before dark, I fell in !!
My phone was knackered so could not call anyone .... Packed up all my gear whilst soaking wet
Got back to my van and the key would not work as soaked as well
I had to pitch my bivvy by my van and in the morning waiting for some to turn up so I could ask to borrow a phone to call my wife to bring up the spare key ... At 06.00 putting on wet clothes after being in a sleeping bag was not great fun
About 07.00 managed to get a dog walker to let me borrow a phone but they were about the 3rd person I asked as the previous two said "No"
My Wife turned up and just threw the keys at me whilst laughing her head off

When I was about 16 my dad dropped me off for a three day session at a very remote lake whilst unloading the car I said to dad I’m just taking the gear to my swim and I’ll be back for the rest. Clearly he didn’t hear what I said and drove off with my rod bag and jacket lol. I sat there for two nights waiting for his return.
Not my misfortune but a mate of mine did a long weekend bream fishing with a group on the Shannon Years ago
His responsibility out of the group was taking the maggots . I think he had gallons of them. Somehow he didn’t seal the boxes well enough. On arrival the group opened the van doors and were met with maggots everywhere . The inside of the van and his gear was covered in them. ... Can you imagine the mess and smell.

120 acres and 15 or so fish, where's that then?

In reply to Post #1 Fairly sure, after over 50 years carping in in 2 continents that nobody will be able to beat that.
Losing that fish must just have been devastating!
