In reply to Post #20 I am also looking at the fly options but concerned about the quality of the gear supplied and to go all that way and then be short of something you would have taken had you driven
Really liked a couple of the lakes a long way down into France - 8-9 hours drive but then it’s extra time or days getting to and from. I have 5 hours to Dover before I get to France
And if your going to do this then you could look at the lakes in Croatia and Belgium
Have fished lake Chira a few times on day trips in Gran Canaria but did a night one time and never had so many mossies. You ended up zipped in in your bag with the top tipped under and that was after using loads of mossy repellent.
Keep looking at Holland - does anyone know of any good Dutch lakes - Ferry to Rotterdam is 45 minutes for me

In reply to Post #19 Agree about the commerciality of the places. If I was to do it again I would prob try Le Quis but definitely not my preferred options. Would also consider a lake where you can fly in and hire tackle, one of my favourite lakes, le Tremblaye offer that service and flights oftwn much cheaper than ferry fuel and tolls

In reply to Post #18 Found dream lakes a bit to commercial- pegs very close together and the main lake not very large. 28 anglers on 33 pegs. Food was very good but having to wheel barrow all your gear to your peg and packing up at 5 in the morning to leave spoilt it a bit for me.
Would only go back if I was taking a young angler or a first timer.
I heard they now have access to the huge lake to the left of the hut. Has anyone fished it and done any good. Heard that’s where they put all the cats when they come out. Definitely wouldn’t wan5 to wheel barrow round that lake

In reply to Post #1 When I have gone on my own I have booked one of the all inclusive venues such as Crete Lakes, Dream Lakes or Le Quis as examples. This helps with the cost and savs on the driving. The negative is that you are stuck on the lakes for the week though

In reply to Post #1 I love my solo trips, highlights of my year.
For the first one, go to a more commercial venue. Armfield angling have sorted me out in the past.
You'll take far too much gear and not use half. Can be v v hot late august.
pm me buddy if you have any q's. I go a few times a year.

In reply to Post #14 Been around for a few years
Couple of things though
They have to be in the drivers name and you can’t add other people’s together
You really need to save them up to get the benefit of them
Look on the club card website it tells you all about it

In reply to Post #13 Oh wow, is this something new? How long is the offer for if so.

In reply to Post #9 If you’ve got Tesco vouchers then £1 buys you £3 of Eurotunnel or Ferry tickets
So a £200 crossing could be closer to £65 of Tesco vouchers!

In reply to Post #9 Also try the late or early crossings. Normally cheaper
I normally try to get on the 1 am with the hour forward and the 2.5 hr crossing it gets you into France for 4.30 ish. This normally then allows for some kip half way through the drive

In reply to Post #9 The ferry is cheaper other times of the year, say April or October when the fishing is still good but not peak holiday season.
Also when you know what Venue you are going to look for other ferry crossing routes as it could cut down on driving time.
I go from Portsmouth to St Malo then drive to where I am fishing, it's pricey but it cuts out many hours behind the wheel driving. So saves diesel and wear on the van.

In reply to Post #9 That's only because your trying to book it at a time when every man and his dog wants a holiday.

In reply to Post #7 It is a bit... I never thought it would become so pricey when I 1st decided to do this trip.
The Ferry alone is £200!

In reply to Post #6 Whenever I go on my own I go for two weeks to water down the cost. It can work out very expensive if in your own vehicle. I've found it suits me to have the first week further south then the second week more northern. Not so much of a grueller the drive home on your own then. Good luck
