Looking for a potential new bottom bait Hook and wondered if anyone has any experience with gardners incizors? Muggas seem to get all the praise, but would quite like to try out some incizors as they are listed as having a medium shank (possibly a little more efficient for bottom baits)
Edit - just got these in the post and compared to more modern hook designs I was really unimpressed with the sharpness. Back they go

In reply to Post #23 Good way to explain it.
I do have plenty of rigs ready tied for when I do need to change the hook, although I have found Muggas do keep their point for more than one fish.
The only thing I can think of is that a bent over point after a fish is hitting bone is has gone in so deeply.
The other thing I have found is that most hook points will bend over if you hit swan mussels or rocks on the bottom.

In reply to Post #22 I’ll never understand this line of thinking. A hook has done its job once you have one in the net. You should never expect to be able to re-use a hook after a capture. Sometimes it happens, and that’s a bonus, but you cannot expect it.

In reply to Post #21 I fish a lot of canals and the fish can have very hard mouths. Often the hook point is bent over after catching a carp.
Before the change to the mugga, I used the fang x but the moment Nash introduced the pinpoint series I stopped using these hooks. They are worse than the muggas.
This are my findings...

In reply to Post #18 What are you doing to them?
Sticking them in rocks?
Gardner hooks are one of the toughest out there. I test hooks before I use the brand, I would rate Gardner Muggas as one of the best on the market, very durable, good points that hold their sharpness.

In reply to Post #18 Really? Muggas have some of the most durable points I've come across. Maybe try the continental version?

In reply to Post #15 it are good hooks but the point of the hook is weak.
I've got frequently bent hook points when the fish hard hard mouths.

In reply to Post #16 Never used them but after a losing a few on the kamakura I fancy giving them ago. Is mugga a classic pattern as I see mugga wide gape etc. Also with the Jason hayward sharpened ones do they effect them negatively as in one fish hooks etc

In reply to Post #1 Great Hooks preferred the old green/black packet (barbed) to the newer covert semi barbed

In reply to Post #1 Muggas are the only hooks I use now. Slip d or german rig for bottom baits or wafters and ronnie for pop ups

In reply to Post #1 Brilliant hooks. Suited to everything apart from stiff materials for which you need a chod hook. I use them for slip D's and Ronnies. I also use the IQ D rig and use Gardner chod hooks for that. I was losing a few fish on a different hook pattern. Went back to the Mugga and since then 9 bites, 9 landed.

In reply to Post #1 Great hooks, suitable for various rig's always have a packet or two!

I will always pick a muggas when fishing barbless waters

Where curved hooks are allowed I use Gardner Mugga hooks.
They work well with a line aligner, coated or uncoated braid, which are my usual hooklink materials, although I do sometimes go to a combi-rig with them, either Amnesia or fluorocarbon for the boom.
I use them for bottom bait or snowman presentations and on the rare occasions I go to a pop-up Ronnie rigs.
I have never broken or bent out the hook, despite using them in weed and near snags.

In reply to Post #1 For me they are a great hook but not with fluorocarbon, work better when they can turn, as on stripped back coated braid.

In reply to Post #1 99% of my fishing is with size 4 muggas sharpened by jason hayward.
Great hook and versatile.

In reply to Post #1 Best hook pattern out there. Perfect for pop ups, wafters or bottom baits. They are so good I'm thinking of clearing out all my other hooks.

As below, from a simple Knotless Knot rig to a Ronnie. I’ve used them in a 4 for both, good hooks.

In reply to Post #1 Some people use them on multi rigs too.

In reply to Post #2 simple blowback rig - no kicker required
Mega hooks

In reply to Post #1 German rig, ronnie, slip d, blowback or straight bottom bait
One of the most versatile patterns out there

Hi Guys,
I have some gardner mugga hooks in the tackle box that i have never used. What rigs can you use these with as there not the normal curve shank hook as they have a slight inward turned eye.
I tried tying some IQ D rigs with them but it seems like the point of the hook faces directly at the mono which looks like the hook is slightly closed off but im no expert.
Any help would be apprecaited.
