Anyone used the Shimano tx9 infinity? I’m also looking for rods for 0.35 level line casting of 150yards plus & These were suggested. Hard to find any real world feedback or reviews though.

In reply to Post #25 Just because a blank has power does not meen you have to thrash it and load it quickly, learning to progressively load it and therefore progressively load the line will produce better casts without crackoffs and you don't need five ounce leads to produce big casts. The 13ft df x45 I could cast greater distance the 3.5 ounce than 4 with. 35mono straight through.

In reply to Post #25 It’s all about the smooth and controllable release of energy, which is the whole point of the thread unless I’m mistaken; casting without the need for a leader.
There may be a rod or even a rebuild of existing rods that make it more comfortable for the OP, which is what he asked for

In reply to Post #24 The 13ft c2d was designed with casting straight through in mind but they need to ditch the alps seats. If you take two rods of the same tc and action, one 13ft and one 12ft the 13ft should cast further provide the caster can maintain the keep the same hand speed.

You can use a 4oz lead with 15lb mono (diameter dependent). 130 yards definitely isn’t the limit using 15lb. I think the c2ds were developed specifically for places with leader bans. I think they softened the butt section of the rod and slightly stiffened the tip to reduce crack offs. I have never had a crack off with the rods in fairness even with a 40mm butt ring.

In reply to Post #13 I am aware that the number of rings and their placement contributes to the performance of a blank, but I would be genuinely interested to know how they extract power from a blank. I did not say 3.25 was too much for15lb mono, I use 12lb on my distance rods, the essential bit is I use a leader for distance casting. If I can't use a leader I limit the distance I fish and I don't think you need powerful 13ft blanks for that. My personal opinion. If you can't or don't use a leader why waste money on rods that need them to perform to their full potential

I have 13ft 3 3/4 c2ds I use them with 15lb line exclusively and found them much easier to cast to distances around 130 than any other rods I have used. I have had 2 break on the alps real seats both replaced free of charge within a week. Some other people swear by them and have had no issues with the reel seats. My honest opinion owning these rods Is reliability is everything in a distance Rod. You need to be sure it’s going to be up to the task unfortunately they have let me down twice in a season. If I could sell them at a decent price I would be looking at some Harrison’s probably some aviators 👍🏼

Happy to develop a technical discussion on rod design but the essential question was casting at range without a leader. The guy is casting over 130 yds with 3.5 oz leads on 15lb mono straight through and is not intending to use a leader of any kind. I would say that is getting close to safety limits and if you are going to load a powerful 13ft rod to make the most of it you will need a heavier lead which means a leader and that is not possible.

In reply to Post #18 The 13ft 220’s they had were hutch specials with the longer handle and butt ring pushed further up.

In reply to Post #16 That would suggest that the rods used were standard builds with a 24in handle, being 5ft 8 myself I know this suits where someone of 6ft 3 may need a long handle to achieve the best from a blank due to them having longer arms (reach), just my thoughts on this. 👍

In reply to Post #1 It’s tough to call because what works for one won’t work for another. 12 of us recently had a casting tutorial with Mark Hutchinson on the local syndicate and Steve from walkers brought a few different free spirit rods with him. Personally I found the 13ft hi s ives suited me best and I couldn’t use a 12ft er at all. We had blokes 5ft 8 sticking 13ft 220’s 186 yards and people 6 foot 3 incapable of using them. What was interesting is we pretty much all had a different choice of rod that suited us.
