In reply to Post #24 Sounds good that G, I had wondered how effective they were
I was sorely tempted by the Bivvy but at the time was fishing day tickets and wanted the smaller footprint of the V2. As with everytime I buy a shelter, I slowly buy the 'additions' and then they stop it and bring out a improved version That leaves me at the mo with a unused Skullcap and extension & groundsheet...oh well!
I did enquire with Army andy about vents but left it there as wasn't getting out much.

In reply to Post #24 Sounds similar to what I said below that Gerry, seems to pull drafts through them when the rear vents are open, cold back on a night though!

In reply to Post #23 Last summer in the middle of the heatwave
I was bivvied up on top the flood bank of the Trent and my Tempest BIVVY with skull cap fitted was the coolest shelter I have ever had the rear vents were open and the front zipped off
and it was actually cooler inside than out a first for me

Many years ago I got very badly sun burned in my bivvy and as far as I'm aware none of them are UV proof. During that trip I got talking to some Dutch lads and they used to sandwich a space blanket/foil blanket between the inner and outer when fishing on the waters edge (think 100's of yards between bank and water) of very large 'down' reservoirs abroad. I did use that method several times and it worked very well. I'm using a Tempest at the mo, last year it was so hot in France (40s) I really do need a rear vented tent at some point.
My hot weather wish now is a bait boat/bait shelter/roof port, pita bringing the boat out from under the bed every time.

In reply to Post #20 I do exactly that with my cool box or fridge if its in the 30c range just keep dunking an old towel in the lake then draping it over
I never thought to chuck it on top of the bivvy good idea

Typical Brits. .. 4 days of sun and we start complaining
Let your nose go pink and your crack get sweaty and enjoy it while it lasts cause it'll be raining again by the weekend

Keep regularly soak a big bath towel and chuck it over the top of your shelter, Fished at Iktus in 42 degrees in 2013 and there were a few Spanish anglers doing this so I gave it a try surprisingly a lot cooler.

I bought a makita fan that runs on 18volt drill batteries, to big to carry for an overnighter but for long sessions it’s great, battery lasts 9 hours and you have the added benefit of the flow of air keeping the mozzies away.

When I fished Rainbow it was one of the hottest weeks they had had for years it was 40c plus shade temps
so I went to a truckstop and bought a truckers 12v fan this run directly off my 40watt solar panel no problems and was a life saver
I never Blank ... I simply run out of time

Be careful what you wish for, if one of these “stars” does it that could be the in thing, beanie hat and bollox
I can see it now, spods are no longer thrashing the water to a foam, it’s naked carp anglers
Both of my tents have mash panels in the back, always seem to get a draft, fantastic idea that
Or save yourself the pain, plan your fishing around bite time then your not sat around in this midday sun...

In reply to Post #1 When i did an over nighter the other week the bivvy felt like a sauna during the day.
To me, an overnighter (90% of my fishing) is anything from 6pm to 8am, so the brolly wouldn't be up at all during the height of the heat anyway.

In reply to Post #11 A hat and sun tan lotion on the 1% of occasions I actually use it (wrong I know). In this weather, it's an absolute waste of time sitting there like a lemon behind 3 rods. Get the floater rod out and walk the pond. Much more fun.
If all else fails, trees provide cover (as you mentioned) and personally I wouldn't fish a puddle without any trees, so it isn't an issue.

In reply to Post #13 I think I saw that one of the tackle companies has brought out a bivvy fan, think it's trakker.
