Got to laugh, just got changed and had a look out of the window, Neighbour asleep in garden. Wife is sat on a swing thing reading a book with a glass of wine. Two massive bottles of frosty jack, few scattered bottles including wine on the patio table, all empty, and what looks like a magnum of champagne
Happy days
Weather is amazing, one Aspall for me and a neck oil so far, suns out, dogs had an op and is sat at the back door with a lampshade on lol, curry on its way, magnificent

Its a bit like vaping, next week i will be moving on to the 5.4% stuff if i can get to the farm without my license.

Amazon daily deal on a bottle of 'Proper No. Twelve' - should be £35, today it's £28 (for the next 10 hours anyway)

In reply to Post #56 Alcohol isn't the issue, it's the wife's "boredom baking" that is causing concerns. I've had more cake in units than beer! Apart from two Punk IPAs on VE day, I've not touched a drop. Trying to use the time wisely by decorating the living room, dining room, boys bedroom, renovate the garden and build a koi pond.

Years ago when holidaying in Cornwall I bought a pint of cripple cock the name more than anything made me laugh it was alright from memory.
Aspalls Imperial Vintage should be banned it's a creeper, I had about 6 or 7 at a BBQ a few years back completely lost my memory of the night it got very messy.
Herefordshires best Cider in my opinion Stowford Press and is just about my limits these days with the occasional Westons Vintage absolute nectar only drunk in moderation 2 bottles and then onto the weaker stuff, you can keep Old Rosie too much of that will turn you blind.
When I started regularly drinking in Hereford back in the late 80's we had one pub called the Sun, it basically sold all rough scrump straight out of the barrel on the bar top, it was a proper spit and sawdust pub I don't think they could proof the cider it was that strong like cloudy dishwater with allsorts floating in it, they had one guest ale once called Black Stag even the hardened blind cider wino's were only allowed a pint.

In reply to Post #32 I’ve had a few of those cloudy ciders with the bits in when I have been on holiday down your neck of the woods, Cornwall. Like the odd pint of scrumpy Ken, rocket fuel, drunk as a barrow wheel. On a hot summers day though, it don’t half quench the thirst
Once brought a couple of demijohns home, cripple cock it was called, pissed up chicken on the bottle, I know why they called it crippled cock later though

What is it, 8.2%
You would get on with my neighbour, he’s a functioning alcoholic my Mrs says lol, he can knock that petrol back. Was talking to me the other day, cider can’t be over 8.4% or it would have to be classed as a wine, bet he’s devastated
Mind you though, after 30 minutes of drunken slur with a conversation that started with Cider and went onto Lancaster bombers, sweet corn, China, Tonka toys and an whole lot more bollox I felt like chucking myself in the pond

In reply to Post #21 Lidle do a good one too, i think it's called Dungarven, easy to do a couple of bottles with ice in a night, the alcohol content isn't as high as some but i bet the fat content is.
In the winter on my water i reckon it's an easy 20 odd bottles over a weekend, it's in coffee, bag mixes, drunk neat its like Christmas every weekend

In reply to Post #18 I don't drink as I don't like it.
I've tried most .
I did 4 buy bottles of Crabbies Ginger beer before Christmas , I gave two to friends & since Lockdown I have had the other two.
But, & here's the but, I had some Bailey's in since Christmas & that's been drunk.
I've now come across Aldi's finest rip off version of Bailey's at under £4 a bottle.
It's bloody lovley ,Simply Lovely .
'er in doors reckons it's not as good but I think it's as good & at a 3rd of the price a bargain.
Mind you , After Lockdown ends I'll probably be at AA , " My name is Mike & I'm an addict to Bailey's "
Keep safe Peeps and the Monkey snot virus will eventually go.

Unless you are driving and fancy the taste of a beer?
I would just have a beer 🍺
Or is it a calorie thing?
In the past we used to go out in cars with my mates, used to hate driving when it was my turn, everybody pissed having a good time and a riot and me stood there sober, just felt out of place!

In reply to Post #6 It’s been a vice of mine most of my life even in periods of extreme fitness i still drank a bit but predominately on a social scale when I was younger. Still like a drink but I have eased off massively, probably average a bottle of wine a week and say 4 bottles of decent ale on average, try to keep to the 14 units. I have been T total along the way for long periods and got down to a couple of bottles a week but hey, what the hell, you have to live. Must say I find having a beer very relaxing
Not good for the health though long term, higher volumes, aim for the 14 units is my advise, plus you need that gap between it, that’s the key
|
|
|
I'd typically have a beer or two probably 4-5 nights of the week but I've only had one beer since this whole lock down started! bit backward really!
|
|
|
Bottle of Malbec every night for me......

In reply to Post #4 Strange old thing alcohol, it affects some peoples health and mental in different ways.
I'm currently enjoying alcohol every evening but not so much It makes me feel groggy in the morning, Whether that's sustainable I don't know but if it shortens my life a little I'm ok with that, rather go a bit early and happy rather than old, decrepit and need to be looked after.
|

I quit drinking 6 years ago, if the current situation doesn't tip me off the wagon nothing will, so far so good, thank God for alcohol free beers

In reply to Post #3 One glass a day for the French they say, mind you though, knowing the French that will be a thimble
Easy done pal, I used to do that and a case of Carlsberg a week, £10.99 at the time, bargain lol
Maybe ease off it a few nights a week, Doc once told me you need two clear days without alcohol. I know this because I had a friend who owned an Italian restraunt, used to buy my wine off him, to cut a long story short I got a load of fizzy stuff off him one Christmas, few cases and drunk the lot, went for a routine blood test in the January, Sulphates through the roof! ???, couldn’t think why until I read the bottles, caution, high in sulphates
I Like a drink, find it relaxing but longer term, not good for the health unfortunately pal
|
|
|
In reply to Post #2 Bottle of Red a night for me and the Mrs, doesn't seem to do the French any harm .
That Rosie cleans all your pipes out.

|
In reply to Post #1 I like a drink or three. Cut down to Wednesdays, Friday and Saturday, not good for the health
My neighbour is brilliant, keeps a small hammer on top of his brown bin, smashes the bottles so he can get more in. Buys old Rosie by the case from Amazon, brilliant when they are filling the garage up, a sight too see lol. Also the Rose wine that his Mrs sups, probably a couple of bottles of wine a night and at least 6 or 7 ciders. I can hear him smashing the bottles into the bin and often sit there counting them, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, 9 regular
There is a difference though like you say, at the moment he is smashing them in at around 11am in the morning after they have fallen asleep in the garden the night before
I was in the garden the other morning, came out with a couple of bottles of old Rosie, do you want one pal, no, bit early for me John lol
|
|
|
Anyone else feel like every day is a Saturday? All you could hear was the bottles going in when the recycling lorry came round this week.
The shelves were empty again tonight.
