So that is YOUR problem..... I bet you and many others have not even given a thought to taking insurance for trips booked , particularly if booked as part of a group.

You are not doing it right . Ö. and then crying that it is down to somebody else to pick up the pieces.

EVERY holiday you book , be it fishing , Spain with the wife , skiing Ö...offers you insurance or advises you take insurance out elsewhere to cover travel / no show ...whatever.

I bet you a pound to a piece of sh!t that all these people without the correct insurance , will just carry on regardless booking trips and thinking ...it won't happen again.

Man up it is whoever booked the trip that has failed.

Firstly; This is not about fault!
If I had a business where I had to rely upon withholding clients money in the event of a business catastrophe, then I have failed my clients, in this case, anglers.
In most cases; itís totally understandable to keep the deposits, but, they should be used for future bookings.
The deposit Funds should not simply be used to quantify managing a business through a tough time, this is unacceptable, a false economy and bad practice.
In fact, if you wish to get legal, you should not spend, allocate or disperse deposits until you have fulfilled the agreed contract the funds are for.
IE: someone may wish to cancel, therefore, those funds should be readily available to refund back.
Most fisheries have excellent relations with their anglers, and in most cases, things like this can be arranged in a sensible, amicable manner, for both parties.
But for fisheries who have little, or no compassion & respect for anglers money, or loss, these fisheries ought to be exposed.
Why?
So that anglers in the future, CAN make an informed decision in the future, as to where they spend this hard earned money.
Iíll end with this:
The above words do not associate to well managed, respectful and decent fisheries.
The words above relate to those at the opposite end of that spectrum!

Iíll put like this:
Itís the right thing to do..
And for those who do not, where fishery owners keep funds, knowing the angler looses money, they will not be in business long..
word gets around, simple as that. Shame on them during a crisis.
& by the way; you canít get insurance to cover a scenario like this! It all comes under act of god!
Most fisheries have done exactly what should be done, return deposits, or use those deposits to book a trip later in the year, or the following year, not in 2023!!!!
Does that answer the question!!!!
Itís called respect, honour, loyalty and compassion.

I have been reading a few posts elsewhere and it seems that some people are having problems with insurance
One of the reasons being the border was not closed and other are saying that there are all sorts of terms that mean they are not covered

It is in my, and probably everyoneís else view, completely working to withhold people money, or not offer to use that money for a future trip. Itís disgusting!

Iím no lawyer, but surely Ribiere is not entitled to funds without fulfilling some alternative means for taking the money.
Either way, all other fisheries have either refunded the money or offered dates late in the year, with the deposits from cancelled trips, due to the lockdown.
Iíd be interested to see your mates message on here.. Fisheries like this need to be exposed.

Friend of mine is due out at Riberie on 9th May, the lockdown is in force until at least the 11th May, he received a mail from Riberie stating that if hes not there by the 11th May thats 3 days into his 7 day trip so giving him 4 days fishing, he will lose his deposit. I believe if the travel ban was lifted the earliest he would be able to travel would be the 12th. Hes a regular who has supported Riberie since David bought it.

How much 'good will' can a fishery give.
I am failing to see why people expect the lakes to pay out.
You book your trip you take insurance OR NOT !!!

Where is the incentive for people to take insurance in the future

More interesting would be Ö how many of these anglers actually have the insurance in place ??

As stated previously , I have had one English venue keep the deposit because I refused to pay the balance and then have to claim on my insurance if we were still prevented from travel.

And my French trip has insurance in place ÖÖÖÖ I pay the insurance (bank ) and I go to them to refund me Ö..simples

It doesn't state its not transferable so i would expect it to be transferred to another booking . It also states that deposits are non refundable except in individual, exceptional circumstances at the discretion of Domaine de la Riberie. So is this not exceptional circumstances. If I had cancelled then I would expect to lose my deposit but I have`nt. French and English governments have stopped me going, pretty exceptional reasons.

Just out of interest mate: Did you see the feed from AnyCarper on March 28th..?
His was able to move his trip to Ribiere later in the year, using his deposit on the cancelled trip..
You should check that out seeing as you have lost your deposit (if thatís what has happened)??
Good luck....
