It's good to hear of a decent business doing right by its customers who behave in a similar manner

If anglers can claim through their travel insurance then that's great for all concerned and not to be sniffed at. In our case we have carried any deposits paid over to the next booking. As most of our guests are regulars that suits them fine. I would add that without exception our anglers have been understanding of the situation and extremely helpful. There is a lot said about the importance of fisheries looking after their anglers but perhaps it would be nice to hear of the many anglers that have such a good relationship with their fishery that they are thinking of their plight in this difficult time. I have been inundated with supportive messages and even had a couple of anglers offer to help with the cost of feeding the fish during the shutdown. As our anglers are now friends of long standing in the main we are working through this difficult phase together.

I would also add that the big losers financially are the fisheries who have a total loss of income during the shutdown. It will not surprise me if a good many venue's will not be in a position to weather the lock down period. Very sad for all concerned.
And perhaps most important of all is to stay safe and hope that this bloody plague doesn't take anyone dear to you.

@oldfellah. What’s the situation at your lake moulin Du mee.....regarding your shutdown ? Are you refunding full booking? Keeping deposits?? or changing bookings affected to alternative dates ? Or are you telling people to claim through there travel insurance..I take it with so many regulars returning yearly to your venue you have looked after them ?? Wouid be interesting to hear what lake owners are looking after there customers and what ones are telling them to claim through insurance or keeping deposits etc...my trip to la Saule Paquot has been rearranged with no hesitation by the owner Tony who couldn’t do enough to help his customers in this Coronavirus shutdown..

Exactly, except I don´t think many fisheries in France will seriously believe that they will be open in May and I don´t think many people who booked in May will have paid their holiday balance in March.

And the problem will be they'll be people booked on lakes and the lakes will be open but we can't travel there.
That's not the lake owners fault he'll be open for business so UK anglers may have to lose deposits and payments?

That might be the case but UK anglers will not be fishing in France in May, travel restrictions will still be in place then either here or there.

Spot on, Lance & Robby. Perspective is all very well but until this thing has run its course quoting perspective is meaningless.

Add Covid19which attacks the weak and vulnerable. Hungry, thirsty people carrying parasites and the many other third world health problems with no health infrastructure in their nations. What are the figures likely to be then This has a long way to go. Does anybody know what is going to happen? No. Got a vaccine? No. This is not going to be over in weeks or months. We are still in the initial phase. With the exception of aids, we have effective treatments for the other diseases mentioned, including diseases transmitted in dirty water and people have a level of resistance to them, for Covid we don't. I'm not saying we won't prevail, we will but this is not some minor inconvenience delaying people's holiday. Glad you have such a detached perspective on so many millions of deaths.

Problem is there is no vaccine or any other solution for this virus at the moment.
No good sticking your head in the ground is it?
We have to get through this and stick to the rules, simple as that.

Unknown or not. The figures speak for themselves.
Malaria kills around 2 to 3 million yearly.
Hunger kills 9 million.
Aids 700,000 deaths yearly.
Tuberculosis 1.5 million deaths yearly.
Dirty drinking water account for almost half a million deaths each year.
Again I say...... perspective.

The trouble with this virus is it is still an unknown quantity, and who it effects and how badly. A girl i work with her brother had it he is a healthy 50 year old bloke no known health issues, non smoker ran every day played five a side football every week.

Three weeks ago he got mildly ill after about two weeks deteriorated badly got taken to hospital and put in induced coma and ventilator for days, fortunately he was brought round and appears to be making a good recovery.

Someone that works on the other shift lost his mum to it on friday, unbeknown to us he had been in close contact with his mum and may have brought it into work yet he has no symptoms but about 10 days ago and engineer off the same shift went off with severe temperature and cough struggling for breath he couldn't do anything for two days just bed ridden, now slowly recovering but hasn't been tested, yet this guy is in early 60's has had several major health problems including a stroke last year.

Another engineers wife who works at tesco, had her friend who worked alongside her become ill last week all the symptoms went home a couple of days later passed away in her sleep, almost certainly a corona virus death that wasn't recorded.

Id be surprised if anything gets back to normal this year with foreign traveling and fishing.

Agree perspective is needed. Don't know where your figures come from, but using them and your logic this is the perspective view. World wide 160 million deaths, UK 1.2 million deaths. No problems there then.
