In reply to Post #11 I've actually seen a small carp at a local match lake attack and take a small roach from a shoal, think it's quite common. Seem to remeber an article a few years ago about the y were pike fishing and were getting plagued by bream taking the deadbaits

On a similar vein,I was spinning for perch, they go big in this little lake.after no joy on the perch front,I gave it one last cast with a small mepps.....
Whamo!!!!,rods hooped over, and I'm now dreaming of fame ,fortune, president of the perch fishers, cept It turned out to be a 12lb carp...it wasn't a fluke because I had another as well...
One special place I know has few perch, but all are big,one evening I was using these swirl tails, that suffockandy kindly gave me,I started getting big silvers,....then as it got dusk,it hit this big perch,it took me into the pads and bust me straight.

In reply to Post #1 I've also had them on luncheon meat a few times, breads a new one on me though?

In reply to Post #8 Certainly no mention of pike in the species list on this lake, yet there it was.
This lake definitely needed one as there used to be way too many small roach etc.
I do a lot of fishing off the top and a lot of lakes would benefit from something to thin out the small nuisance fish. Between them and the coots the bread doesn’t last long.
Next time I see the owner I might enquire if he introduced any pike.

In reply to Post #7 You'd be amazed just how many lakes that allegedly have no pike in actually do have them

In reply to Post #5 Never fished for pike and none of the other lakes in my area have any in as far as anyone knows so I might give it a go.

In reply to Post #3 Never had one on pepperami, although I can't remeber the last time I actually used it lol. Luncheon meat has caught me quite a few over the years. Plenty on boilies too. Mainly from one lake in particular, weirdly when using live baits for the cats at the same place never had a pike on one

In reply to Post #1 They will snap at anything that goes near them when in hunting mode and the water is clear enough, I've been purposely fishing for them on Fly's of late - brilliant fun!

Interesting thanks guys.
I’ve been fishing for carp on that particular lake on and off for more than 30 years, it’s the first one I’ve heard of coming out.
I did see one in there a few years ago, taking small fry around some bread but it didn’t look very big.
This one was about 6 lb apparently so perhaps it was the same fish that had grown a bit.

In reply to Post #2 I had a pike on a zig last year, black foam, hooked fairly/squarely in the scissors. I've had them on all sorts previously. Pop ups in winter several times. And they LOVE Peperami.

In reply to Post #1 Pike will eat anything. I've caught them on maggots, corn, meat etc etc. Could be just attacking small stuff around your bait, but could be then just eating whatever they find

Fellow fisherman has recently landed a pike on bread while after carp.
I’m not a pike fisherman but I’ve always thought they were 100% meat / fish eaters.
Would it simply the pike taking a small fish along with the bread?
