Lucky I didnít claim there havenít been any spikes then eh!

Just that the so called ďhuge spikesĒ never occurred like they predicted. BLM protests had people shouting murderers at them ffs Just read down the thread on here to see the hype about ďIT WILL CAUSE DEATHSĒ

I think itís both, political stupidity on not advising people properly and being vague and wishy washy throughout, then you have people that donít want to do what they are told, for whatever reason. I.e. masks now. Majority wear them but some donít for medical reasons and some donít because they are idiots. Iíll say that because on the premise a mask doesnít do anything like they claim, then those same people must believe in all NHS staff not wearing them anymore, ever. Not for surgery, not at the dentists, not for meningitis cases, etc.
Will the minority get the blame again though? Does 25% not wearing masks automatically mean they are the reason a spike will occur? Of course not, but there will be a bandwagon condemning them wonít there, there already is!

It's an assumption that shouldn't be happening. We've been told of phone apps and track and trace to rapidly bear down on clusters understanding where and why it's happened. All seems to have gone tits up on that front with people still working on assumptions. Perhaps we should've made sure we could do the right things before letting the genie out of the bottle again.

Claiming there havenít been spikes of infections is really an assumption. Those places and events would generally have been attended by those likely to be asymptomatic/untested and largely unaffected by the virus, maybe the sensibility of older generations and those with underlying conditions has kept hospitalisation and deaths in decline? Plus the wearing of masks, which although a bit late in the day and from what Iím seeing is only about 50-75% adhered to depending where in London, Kent or Essex Iíve been, could help put the brakes on.
The truth is we couldnít enforce a lockdown and even if we did, hospitals and care homes would still have been spreading it to the old and medically susceptible.
I wonder how many hospitalisations occur annually in the time we have been keeping tabs on covid admissions; for heart failure, terminal illnesses and bad falls?
Superbugs never seem to leave hospitals en masse, weíve had it at our local.
Iím not saying there isnít transmission in the community, of course there is.
But we canít just blame political ineptitude, the thing that spread this (globally) is ignorance and/or arrogance in the worldwide community and unprepared health care services.

A mass lockdown of public places till they're proven to be ready to open safely for the public?
Thought we lifted lockdown restrictions at the right time...

I actually think we're more in agreement than not Bob - we're all working on opinion and personal experience right now because there are no definitive answers (although there are a LOT of statistics! )

but to get things under control quickly pubs in the areas we are referring to should be closed unless they can prove they are practising SD to the very highest standard.

Not just pubs, all businesses and local gathering places. It would have been difficult to roll out but having an inspection before being allowed to open and regular monitoring needs to happen otherwise there is no control over it.

If this is solely, as Hancock insinuates, down to families meeting up then it makes no sense, how are you more at risk of meeting your 5 family members than going to a packed pub or to the packed beach, or to celebrate liverpool win the league?

Honestly, the spikes of doom they feared would come as a result of protests, beaches, football celebrations, etc. havent happened. Localised increases have, now is that because like Leicester they started testing more people? because everything re-opened? because those places maybe hadnt had a lot of cases already so it's a larger % increase than other areas? Don't forget the data the decisions are based off has been repeatedly found to be flawed in numerous ways. As Trump said "We test so much of course we find large numbers of cases, if we stopped we wouldnt have any" probably the only sensible thing he's said tbh. The Government were so proud of 'ramping up testing' whilst coinciding it with re-opening things...of course more cases will be found. That's just simple logic, dont need to pin the blame on anyone specific which they seem to be doing.

When it's all over they'll be plenty of people with hindsight who will have claimed to have said 'told you so'

I could pick flaws in your analysis Mal (but that would be only IMO)but to get things under control quickly pubs in the areas we are referring to should be closed unless they can prove they are practising SD to the very highest standard.
