But when you consider how densely populated we are and how in some areas people are so crammed into multiple occupancy accommodation you could say 280,000 is a low figure, and if only 0.5% have had the virus we're doing bloody marvellous.

I'm not saying that by the way just making a point.

Ok if we are talking purely UK figures as that helps with the political point scoring that this is really all about..

UK Population 66.65 Million

UK Covid deaths 44,517

That's 0.06% of the pop. and the economy is still truly ****ed

Until we have a vaccine what real choice do we have but to 'get on with life',and what if that vaccine never comes, then what

We can always print more money. I didn't realise it was that simple

Where I read it

The writer got his data from the WHO. My point is that their economy is still adversely affected on a similar scale to elsewhere but their deaths are far higher. Your Worldometer figures are almost bang on 35%.

What are you advocating? Just let it run its course as only a small percentage of the population have died? If we hadn't taken the measures we did the death toll would be far higher and the virus isn't finished by a long way.

The economy will survive and is a long way from being destroyed. We can always print more money.

280,000 COVID-19 cases in the UK so far, 45,000 deaths roughly. Bit more deadly than 0.007% if less than 0.5% of the UK population have had COVID-19. Transpose those figures.

exactly (morning tinhead)

and the 'official figures' quoted daily are way below the ONS figures - so even the stats aren't accurate.

bloody maths... I always struggled with it

edit - here's a number I could get to grips with

https://metro.co.uk/2020/07/09/tfl-stopped-3000-people-without-face-masks-getting-buses-12965919/?ito=push-notification&ci=22008&si=9412819

as the Dixie Chicks might say - 'there's your trouble'

Not aimed at anyone but.........Ö
That's stats for you, people use them to say anything. We all know the government and the opposition will be using them to suit themselves so please don't act so surprised when it happens.
Surely density of population is a major consideration. One infected person in a densely populated city will cause more damage than one person in a field. Now that's a stat that can really be manipulated.

Worldometers

USA Deaths Per Million 407

Sweden Deaths Per Million 543

Now my maths is **** but I'm sure that's not 40%, nearer 30 isn't it, and while we are at it for perspective the UK Deaths Per Million is 656 which is something like 60% more than the USA, so what's your point, we have locked down Sweden haven't but.........?

The World death figures currently stand at (and I got a calculator for this )

0.007% of the Population, I'll repeat, 0.007% of the Population

but we have destroyed the economy, surely everyone can see that is totally nuts

Semi lockdown , as i keep saying there were certain restrictions , like not being able to stand in bars , so you needed a table so they could not get too overcrowded !
As i keep saying , if it is what the majority , then its ok , a decision made on balanced evidence , and you were not getting anything except from bullshi* this lot that govern us ! remember , Boris was bragging about shaking hands with everyone at the hospital and talking about herd immunity , a feckin joke

I'm not actually going to disagree with you and say It's all in the stats. You can make them tell what story you want.
I was just astonished with Spanker talking about asymptomatic transmission and trust/belief in the same post

Sweden has had 40% more deaths than the USA and their economy has suffered as well. The guy behind the plan is having regrets and the government is having an inquiry. Would our population have been as well disciplined? Tens of thousands dead and people here still canít even put a mask on for a train ride.

Edit: Thatís 40% more per million of population.

Talk about asymptomatic as much as you want but we did lockdown but we should've done it sooner but Sweden didn't really lock down at all so in theory they should've been worse off.
So in hindsight all we needed was trust and belief, if only we knew.

I think you would need to have trust or a decent level of trust in your politicians to adopt their strategy and believe in it as they have and as proven on a daily basis you can not trust this shower of sh** that govern us in the uk .

Boris Johnson, along with several of his most senior ministers, have repeatedly insisted that scientists did not know the disease could be passed on from people who were not showing symptoms of the virus.

But notes from the Governmentís own Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies appears to contradict this, while a leading virologist has scientists ďwith any level of knowledge of human virusesĒ would have suspected asymptomatic transmission from the outset.

The bullshi* and bluster brigade strike again !
