Well, I keep watching the news. I see Trump is blaming the World Health Organization for this?

To be fair I think he has a point, they should have been straight in there, but I blame the Chinese who just sat on it until they had to tell the world. Just same as the Russians, no. We don’t have any cases ffs

The downside to this the blueprint is definitely out there now to cause a global economy shutdown if they want to

I hope they wipe the Chinese economy of the face of the world, please, **** em

I think many businesses are feeling more hopeful now that Sunak has announced the furlough claim back process should be opening April 20th and money taking a few days to reach people after fraud checks.

There was many many businesses saying they couldn’t afford to pay staff now, let alone until June when the furlough money was going to be available. I believe the premise was not having to pay your VAT bill until June meant you could use that to keep afloat however many small businesses do not generate enough VAT to sustain running costs for a few months.

It’s good news for the economy and a lot of people as long as the “working date of 20th April” actually happens.

I think most labs don’t test one sample at a time. They’ll do multiple in the same process which allows for it. Imagine 50 labs doing 2000 a day. Probably more labs than that. Quite easily achievable the more labs in the process

Hi Mal,

I saw an interview, the othe day, on TV with the lead scientist of a lab that had offered it's services for testing the virus and when asked, was it feasible that 100000 tests could be done daily, he said there were scores of other labs like his, willing to participate, along with those already doing them and others primed to do so, and that, in his opinion, it was perfectly feasible.

BB.

I forgot the name. But there’s a testing method where 10/20/30 or however many are screened at once...
There ‘should’ be clear batches that can be disregarded but a positive batch is broken down into individual tests.
Obviously a lot of swabs need taking, maybe we could get bar staff, personal trainers and McDonald’s workers on the job

There was hope of a home testing kit for each household, but I believe it's not materialised. I also believe the 100,000 a day was meant to be a mix of antigen and antibody tests for obvious reasons. But the science has been more difficult than initially thought so the vital antibody tests aren't available. Again I believe this has something to do with lots of false positive test results. Picking up other coronavirus in the patient not COVID-19.

Well in the simplest of terms yeah....

But how the hell is that going to work in reality?

I'm not being obstructive. In fact I hope it IS possible, I just don't see it being an achievable target. Who is doing all the testing? If it's the current system on b and q car parks etc. That must be a 5 minutes per test at least.

Surely with loads of testing centres poking swabs up people's noses and loads of labs all working simultaneously...

Hi all. Hopefully this won't go off on another political sidetrack as that's not my agenda.

I'm curious / sceptical / amazed / confused about the target of 100,000 tests per day.

How is that even possible?

Just doing the simple maths. 100,000 divided by 24 (hours), then divided by 60 (minutes) gives a figure of 69.4444.

That's 69.4 tests per minute. More than one per second. And that's over the full 24 hours with no space for respite or breaks or the fact that it's unlikely that folk will be getting tested at half three in the morning etc.

I just can't figure out how it's going to be possible.

Anyone got some insight!?

Genuine question with no underlying political bias.
