I've purposely not joined there as it was already a circus.
Shame as I had mates fishing it (and for the Carp) and one of them had that fish (and others a bit smaller)

Hopefully it won't see too much pressure... I'd hate for a beautiful creature like that to get caught too much and die.

Does anyone know what river Colin Smithson's barbel was caught at?

https://www.anglersmail.co.uk/news/sussex-ouse-barbel-record-80213

https://www.anglingtimes.co.uk/fishing-news/2014/18lb-9oz-barbel-smashes-River-Rother-record/

https://sussexangling.co.uk/news/18lb-arun-barbel-caught/

My theory is that the 21lb 2oz barbel was caught from the river Cuckmere, but cant find any records of barbel ever being caught there.

Will not be the Ouse ... Biggest from there is about 13lb

Some other rivers in Sussex that have thrown up some big barbel as well as the Arun ... Sadly this has come from my clubs waters and will be rammed with new members I would imagine now

Let’s hope it does not meet the same fate as a previous record, the Pope. That bumped into an otter

Strange that cannot find any mention of it on Angling Times or Anglers Mail websites - either when it was caught or this statement from the BRFC. Strange as this sort of thing should be all over the angling pages. I did notice that both the Times & Mail's news pages were all over the place with regards to date of items posted!

Have to admit that there are an awful lot of green leaves on the trees in his picture for a fish caught at beginning of November this year

Coppied from Record fish committee website

Colin Smithson’s Barbel (Barbus barbus) was ratified at 21lb 2oz, to overtake Grahame King’s 2006 Great Ouse record by just one ounce. Colin’s fish was caught from a Sussex river on 7th November 2019.

I thought it was the lower Severn that took it from the Ouse

Maybe that One never got claimed
