Thanks all, that Ouse biggie is still the last barbel I've caught, despite trying a few times since!
I did have a tot up of barbel caught this year (since June), my first 'full' season trying for them. 107 landed I think, with quite a few lost as well.
I'll keep trying odd times through winter where weather and levels allow

In reply to Post #1 Brilliant post mate. Great fish and a great story. I still re-tell some of the magical days I had on the bank and the shore with my dad.
Congratulations on a superb catch that should be gracing the pages of anglers mail etc.
The real prize is doing it with your lad though.

I took my lad fishing once and the very first bite he had turned out to be a 15lb mirror, it took me ages to get one that size when I started so was very happy for him. I said pick it up then, lets get some pictures to show your mum,
''I aint picking that up dad, it's all slimy and horrible''
He hasn't been since.
