In reply to Post #12 I recently bought similar spools from FR Custom (https://www.custom-reels.de/produkt/spulen-spools/) second hand. The line capacity was ca. 100m /0.30mm . Muss less than specified....
Not sure if those are the same but if so , I would rather go for original BE spools and replace the line clips.

In reply to Post #9 Late to the party here but im considering buying some. Did you get your issue resolved? I changed my line clips but noticed they still pinch the line so will keep them for braid and buy the weston's for mono.

In reply to Post #6 I've known Andy at Weston for many, many years so I thought I'd drop him a quick note about your problems as he is always interested in any feedback etc..
Here is his response:
".....I have had one guy a while back with an issue with his spools. Turned out it was his spool caps that had been modified that were the problem.
The click spring in the cap was worn or not engaging with the click plate in the spool properly causing a problem. He tried different caps and speed caps and they were fine then.
So if the spool cap is engaged properly with the click plate in the front of the spool it can’t rotate, it’s impossible because click plate is locked onto the flats of the main shaft via a square hole.
Only the spool can rotate when line is taken, the cap and click plate are fixed unless they are worn or damaged.
They are more than welcome to phone me and discuss any issues. The number is 07811 618226..."
I don't profess to exactly understand all of this but give him a call he is a genuinely nice guy who will help in any way he can

In reply to Post #6 Mine also have this same tightening issue (Albeit the Infinity BR 5500 shallow versions) and currently I've a set of 3 sat in a cupboard gathering dust - anyone know how to fix this particular issue?!
Don't want to hijack the thread so may start a new one if people can help

I hate my Weston spools - they snag on the spool cap when the cap is backed off. When a run occurs - they effectively tighten the drag up as the spool rotates - tried to remedy this to no avail.
I only keep them as they are the deep ones - just incase I need to boat a bait to the horizon..

In reply to Post #4 You can use plastic ones mate.
I dont think the weston spools are any better than the standards. If you dont need spares I'd just do the clips.

In reply to Post #1 The Weston spools are awesome. The line lay is better on their spools for some reason also. Highly recommended
