Just check before you go to the Maldives whether the island will allow you to fish from the beach mate. When I've been I've sorted out boats for game fishing and lots of the islands do little evening boat trips you can fish on. Specie's wise it could be literally anything lots of small sharks, reef fish, eels and rays. Impossible from most islands to beach fish effectively due to each being surrounded completely by reefs and only a few feet from the beach in lots of places.

I've used the Shakespeare Agility travel rods for several years in 11'6" casting weights upto 8oz and the 11'6" bass style with casting weights upto 4oz. Took them all over the place and been really good. The cases are very strong and I just strap them too my case or take as hand luggage if it's free to do so.

shimano make some ok travel spinning rods. You only need something light or medium-light (in SW terms) with that small reel
nash sawn off has a great pack down size, but doesnít really have the right action; at least itíll be of some use for the UK though.

Can anybody recommend a fishing rod for taking in the suit case when going on holiday ? Iv got a shimano 2500 but unsure whatís best for a fishing rod . Will be for fishing on the beach . No idea what I may catch . Usually in the Caribbean but this time in the Maldives .
